Volúpia de Mulher

This is a "pornchachada" film, a bizarro 80's-era Brazilian genre that was part Latin America telenovela soap opera (except in Portugese rather than Spanish) and part softcore porn. I find this genre in general to be quite enjoyable because while these films always have plenty of hot sex scenes, they also have something BESIDES sex, mainly totally daft and demented--but usually pretty entertaining--soap opera-esque story lines. This kind of puts them in the same category as other genres I enjoy like the American late 60's/early 70's sexploitation films, the Italian films from the great 70's exploitation era, the classy but goofy French "Emmanuelle"-type films, and the Japanese "pinku" films.

With the possible exception of "Violence and Flesh" this is the best "pornchachada" I've seen. The plot is pretty stupid but also pretty fun--a young girl (Vanessa Alves) gets pregnant and gets kicked out of her parents' house when she refuses to marry. Her baby needs an operation and she has to resort to prostitution. She is menaced by her prostitute friends's pimp, but rescued by a tough transvestite (the character here resembles the character Dick Shawn played in the more well-known American 80's hooker-sploitation flick "Angel"). She is also befriended by a female doctor (Helena Ramos) and becomes the nude model/muse of her artist boyfriend.

This features perhaps the two sexiest actresses in "pornchachada". Helena Ramos (from the aforementioned "Violence and Flesh") was the slightly more voluptuous and mature-looking of the two (she kind of resembles Euro-cult actress Edwige Fenech). Vanessa Alves ("The Minor and the Rapist", "Love, Strange Love") was younger-looking and nubile, and often played naive virgins and teenage schoolgirls. They were both sexy as hell and above-average actresses, perhaps even by non-porn standards. The pair, as well as a couple other smoking hot Brazilian actresses, spend about 70 percent of their screen time butt naked and engaging in various softcore frolics, so heterosexual men at least certainly won't be bored, but what goes on BETWEEN the nude/sex scenes is pretty damn entertaining too. I'd recommend this.

When the travesty Lili "Oswaldo" Marlene (Romeu de Freitas) brings the single mother Cristina (Vanessa Alves) and her baby to the hospital, Dr. Laura (Helena Ramos) finds that the baby has a problem and asks what happened with Cristina to Lili. She explains that Cristina had intercourse with her boyfriend in the countryside and her father expelled her from home. She move to the apartment of her acquaintance Carla (Alvamar Taddei), who is a whore, but she does not receive Cristina. She ends at Lili's apartment that supports her. Laura explains that the baby needs an expensive surgery to survive. Meanwhile Laura's boyfriend Marcos (André Loureiro) is looking for a nude model with a special face for his paintings and Laura offers the job to Cristina. But Carla's pimp invites Cristina to prostitute for him and offers a small fortune per program for her. What will Cristina do?

"Volúpia de Mulher" is a Brazilian soft-porn production from the notorious "Boca do Lixo" ("Mouth of Garbage") in the Red Light Zone of São Paulo, and not the popular "pornochanchada" ("porn light comedy") originated in the 70's in Rio de Janeiro. The genre "pornchanchada" is wrongly applied to the Brazilian erotic and soft porn productions. "Volúpia de Mulher" presents a shallow drama and everything that happens is a motive to expose nudity and sexual intercourse. Helena Ramos is probably the queen of the "Boca do Lixo" and made success in the 70's and 80's with her voluptuous body and facility to be naked in front of the cameras. My vote is three.

Title (Brazil): "Volúpia de Mulher" ("Voluptuousness of Woman")

This movie is part of the Pornochanchada film movement in Brazil, which was very popular cinema roughly between 1977-1985. At this time, these soft-porn movies were pushing the envelope of sexuality about as far as it could go. Virtually nothing was off limits in these films and they even explored taboos including explicit rape and misogyny, bestiality, necrophilia, water-sports, adolescent sex... you name it, they covered it. Volúpia de Mulher is not extreme and does not contain any of the previous content however it exemplifies "over- the-top" sexuality just the same. All the actresses, including Brazilian goddess Helena Ramos and Vanessa Alves are totally nude throughout most of the film along with the rest of the female cast. The sex is plentiful and explicit.

Beautiful Helena Ramos plays a hospital worker and her boyfriend is a painter who of-course paints nude models. Vanessa Alves's character must become a prostitute in order to help her child.

What makes this film and many other Brazilian erotic films from this era unique is the the fact the lead actresses would often play nearly their entire role nude. Yet still there exists a story, a plot and even some acting. Here we see lovely Vanessa Alves trying to make ends meet and ends up posing nude for the painter only to end up prostituting herself. She eventually ends up having a sexual affair with the painter.

Nude Brazilian bodies fill the screen and nicely illustrates what movie-goers in 1980s Brazil were taking in at the box office. Sex!

Few months ago Helena Ramos gave a interview to an important site on internet talking about your career on this kind of movie, she reported that some of them were filmed in three weeks only, but the money wasn't good enough for many unknown actress in that time, also she explains that didn't marry until now, but have a son, rose up some money and got a standard apartment which lives an easy life, she was my favorite pornochanchada's actress a real goddess!!
