The sitcom centres around the dysfunctional Harper family: Ben, a brilliant dentist but a immature husband to wife Susan who he annoys and his children. Susan, Ben's long suffering wife and a art gallery employee. Nick, Ben and Susan's idiotic oldest son who irritates his family and is despised by Ben. Michael, Ben and Susan's youngest highly intelligent and cynically humorous son and Ben and Susan's daughter Janey who is a shopaholic and is vain and shallow. Other characters in the sitcom are Abi Bailey, Ben and Susan's accident prone niece. Alfie Butts, Nick's slow Welsh friend, a musician and Janey's very intelligent son Kenzo and Roger Bailey, Ben's college, a over-enthusiastic dentist who unintentionally irritates Ben and has no common sense and lacks social intelligence.
