Frankly saying I don't know who is Mahendran before 2011 yet I have seen the movies Mullum Mallarum,Johnny,Nandu with Mullum Mallarum being one of my fav Movie.Finally i got to see this movie(UthiriPookal) with the help of My friend. After watching the movie i was frustrated with my self why didn't i watched this movie till now(2011).

Everything in this movie is a masterclass be it Story or Screenplay or Performance or BGM everything.

Vijayan who is the lead of the movie has done a great job carrying the role of Sundaravadivelu with ease and remember it is a negative lead character. The movie also has a good support cast with likes of Charuhassan,Sharathbabu and Ashwini.

Soundtrack are as usual a great one from Raja sir especially the Song Azhagiya Kanne is simply amazing. Though the film don't depend on the music, raja sir BGM doesn't affect the film in any way & combined well with the characters & story.

Mahendran the man whom i didn't know till 2011 gave this film which is still a "Benchmark for Tamil Cinema", what he done with Uthiripookal is still unbelievable.The way of story is distinct from other Indian Movies.The Story with a village background and a negative character, still you cant find a blood or violence in the movie.Slow but steady and ends with a heart breaking climax. It is one of my Top 5 Tamil movies of All time.

This movie is Highly Recommended so don't miss it.

One of the finest Tamil films ever made, this movie represents the best of Mahendran's film-making and storytelling abilities. Fascinating characters, excellent performance and outstanding music by Ilayaraja make for a memorable experience that you would love to revisit.

I watched this film recently. Though I heard from my elders and I was very young at that time, I rented this movies now. I was surprised to see such a nice movie and all the credit goes to the director. With less and meaningful dialog (not like meaningless in maniratnam's movie) this movie is told visually. The leading actor Vijayan has done a excellent roll in this movie. In fact all the roles have done their role well. I am still wondering how come this director did not become famous as others. When other directors are creating movies for radio, this movie stood out as visual treat. Portrayed a very nice, small and traditional village. No gimmicks, no magic but a drama with a reality touch.

THIS IS THE FIRST MOVIE MAKES A BIG CHANGE IN TAMIL CINEMA INDUSTRY. NO POWERFULL CHARACTER'S NO VIOLENCE NO TRAGEDY. IT SEEMS TO DEEP INSIDE OUR SOUL. HEARTLY THANKS TO PUTHUMAI PITHAN AND MAHENDRAN SIR

You can for sure add this film as one of the best for Screen Play and Music ( None other than ILAYARAJA ).The film is a great example for reality in screens . The climax is very new for all. A must see film for people who value family and music. with luv n regards Murali
