The 10 greatest Rutger Hauer films that aren’t Blade Runner
From the 70s to the present, we look back through the sterling work of Rutger Hauer to bring you the actor’s 10 finest films that aren't Blade Runner...

For some, Dutch actor Rutger Hauer will forever be associated with a certain rooftop speech about tears in rain. But although his turn as doomed replicant Roy Batty in Blade Runner was a classic one, Hauer’s output before and since has been stunningly prolific. This list, therefore, is designed to highlight 10 of Hauer’s finest non-Blade Runner movies, with a particular emphasis on those that are lesser known – which is why we've gone for some older pictures rather than the more recent and mainstream, such as Batman Begins. And since this is Den of Geek, expect to find lots of action movies, horror, and low-budget sci-fi in the entries below.

One thing they all have in common, though, irrespective of...

Ron Underwood To Guide Woodchucks, A Skiing Team Dramedy
Those of you educated in the art of cinema- a rare and hardy group though you are- will perhaps instinctively recoil at any film project that openly describes itself as a “skiing dramedy.” And, if so, it reflects rather well upon your intellect. In this instance, however, there may be a saving grace and that is director Ron Underwood. If the name doesn’t immediately ring a bell it is because he has been relatively quiet on the big-screen during the last decade, but earned his renown with the consecutive films of Tremors and City Slickers, but now he is back and ready to direct an original screenplay entitled Woodchucks.

Underwood’s low profile of late is, broadly speaking, a consequence of a lack of good scripts post-City Slickers which culminated in the appalling The Adventures of Pluto Nash starring Eddie Murphy, which earned him a Razzie nomination and made huge box office losses.

Ron Underwood directing new ski comedy Woodchucks
Director Ron Underwood (City Slickers) is developing a new ski team comedy called Woodchucks. The film is based on a screenplay written by Len Britton (Precious Find) a former pro ski coach and Rick Parks. J. Todd Harris (Bottle Shock) of Branded Pictures Entertainment will produce along with Bradford Broyles and Britton. Branded's Marc Marcum will serve as a co-producer.

Woodchucks is a dramatic comedy that follows "a Vermont ski team as it tries to prevent a corporate resort developer from wrecking their local mountain. Principal photography is scheduled to begin at the top of next ski season on location in Vermont."

Underwood also directed Tremors, Heart and Souls, Speechless and Mighty Joe Young. He also was responsible for the craptastic The Adventures of Pluto Nash starring Eddie Murphy. Recently, he's been directing TV on series such as Heroes, Reaper and Ugly Betty.

Underwood, had this to say about the project.

City Slickers Director Ron Underwood to Film Skiing Comedy Woodchucks
City Slickers director Ron Underwood is set to direct a new ski comedy called Woodchucks.

The script was written by Len Britton (Precious Find) and Rick Parks (Ever After).

Len Britton is a former professional ski coach. He was, even more, 2009 running for U.S. Senate as a Republican and told that understood problems Vermonters face. Britton is the father of five children and I believe he is the right person to pen such a scenario. Despite his only sci-fi movie wasn’t well-liked.

On the other side, Parks’ co-written Cinderella is far a better movie so no needs to doubt him. Rick Park is a Vermonter too and is partnered with Britton in the Vermont-based media company Britton-Broyles Media.

The dramatic comedy follows a Vermont ski team as it tries to prevent a corporate resort developer from wrecking their local mountain. Principal photography is set to begin at the...

Director Ron Underwood to Helm Ski Comedy Woodchucks
Director Ron Underwood (City Slickers, Tremors) is set to direct a new ski dramedy called Woodchucks. The story centers on a Vermont ski community attempting to prevent a corporate resort designer from taking over their mountain (so, Out Cold?). The script was written by Len Britton (Precious Find) and Rick Parks (Ever After), and Risky Business reports that filming is set to get underway next ski season in Vermont. Here’s what Underwood had to say regarding the project: “It’s been a long time since Downhill Racer, and while Woodchucks is certainly a lighter tone, it has the makings of the first exciting narrative ski movie in a long time. I’m an avid skier and I can’t wait to showcase the sport.” After a string of successes, Underwood was put in a bit of a director’s doghouse after the disastrous Eddie Murphy vehicle The Adventures of Pluto Nash.
