Dynasty: The Reunion

I was, like any other "Dynasty" fan, happy to see the cast back after a couple years away. This reunion movie answered some questions (rather indirectly) from the series' cliffhanger as to who survived the balcony scene, etc., and certainly delivered on the catfight quotient (who would have thought feathers could fly like that?). The recasting of Adam was a disappointment; Robin Sachs just didn't have the zest of Gordon Thomson (who had taken over the wonderfully zesty role of Mason Capwell on NBC's daytime soap "Santa Barbara"). But the return of Al Corley, who frankly, was always three times as HOT as Jack Coleman (and I'm not even gay -- or male!) as Steven just about redeemed that.

The storyline with the Marshalls and Jeremy Van Dorn was fair, but Sammy Jo! Oh, we were so disappointed in the direction Sammy Jo went with this one! She was voted BRBTV's most matured character over the course of the series run, evolving from a sleezebag opportunist into a smart businesswoman, but here in the reunion movie she de-volves back to just about zero. Yikes.

The one line summary sums it up. If you want to cringe at scenes where the entire extended family is watching home movies of themselves fighting and making stupid comments, this is the movie for you. I'm just glad that all the actors are now washed up or retired (except for Heather Locklear, of course

I remember watching this, but not too much of the exact plot. It was put together to tie up the loose ends from the last season of the show, which I wasn't watching at that point anyway (I gave up after the Moldavia massacre mess!), but I was curious to watch and see all the cast together.

The part that sticks out in my mind is the end when the whole cast of characters, apparently all getting along so famously well after they kissed and made up (which didn't quite make sense to me), is together watching "home movies." Home movies, you may ask? Yes, but they never explained WHO was capturing all this on film for them to relive! This ending was so lame!!!

As for the actors, this fiasco wasn't their fault. Anyway, it was nice to see them back together again. Al Corley was back as Steven Carrington, the role he originally played. I always liked Pamela Sue Martin as the original Fallon. Too bad she couldn't be here, but she left the show on her own so she probably didn't want anything more to do with it. And I loved Pamela Bellwood as Claudia, but since the character had died a few years before, she of course couldn't be on this reunion. I'm sure the recasting of Adam had more to do with the fact that Gordon Thomson was unavailable (he was on Santa Barbara) rather than not wanting to be part of this project. Unfortunately, his replacement was not up to the task. But I'm sure whoever played this part other than Gordon would not seem right in the role to loyal fans. I was surprised that there was no Amanda, the long-lost forgotten daughter of Blake and Alexis. (There may have been some mention of her, but I doubt it although I don't remember exactly.) There were two actresses in this role, so I'm sure it wouldn't have mattered who played her if she were there. Amanda Carrington would have made more sense than Kirby Anders being there, as someone else in another comment also thought this was odd.

It's for die-hard fans only. Anyone else should stay far, far away! Three stars for getting most of the cast together one more time. (Zero stars for the plot, or lack thereof... but this show was always more concerned about the style and size of the shoulder pads for the female leads rather than good plots.)

The original had a really tragic ending and it left some subplots open. So, then this addition to the Dynasty saga came along and gave us a cheesy happy ending that looked like something out of Sesame Street...

I loved the original series, but I watched it as a little boy. I remember how after every Wednesday we talked about it in school. "Did you see what Alexis did?", "Wow! You saw what happened to Dex?" and so on. The series was wild and a little nasty, especially the immortal Alexis/Kristle cat fights.

We get another cat fight here too, but it was nothing like the classic fights. *sigh*. The cheesy ending caught me off guard, but it was nice. Only for Dynasty fans, as people who never watched the series will be a little bored.

Actually Dynasty fans will also get bored at some points, but it's still nice to have a reunion with those character and find out what happened.

I Loved Dynasty, and was very upset when it was canceled. I also felt that the reunion movie did not give the viewers what they expected. It seemed to start with a whole new story, if not for the actors from the show one would have thought they were viewing a new miniseries. The producers of Dynasty were always cutting edge and true to form they tried to give the viewers a story in which would enlighten them as well as make them want more. The problem, with this is they first needed to end the cliffhanger. Then followup with the corporate take overs and espionage. Sad to say most viewers were not ready for the information Dynasty was giving in its story lines, they were still in the mind set of a prime time soap and did not want or refused to accept that Dynasty not only gave entertainment, but along with this the producers gave insight in to future events. EX. corporate take overs by moles, the elimination of small business and the merger to 1 large world wide corporation. The acceptance of the gay life style using Blake Carrington as an example, who fought theis way of life now accepting it as a part of everyones right to live their life as they choose. Any one can understand that Aaron Spelling as well as the other producers were hoping to get asked for additional eposides, but with the poor ratings there was no chance, the one thing they failed to do was continue I am sure people would have asked for more, but with so little time for such a vast a story line people lost interest, especially since vewers were just looking for answers and loose ends to be tied up. Hopefully Mr Spelling or some new producers will creat a new Dynasty and it will be as entertaining and as informative as Dynasty.
