9/11 Musical ‘Come From Away’ Heads to Broadway in February 2017
Broadway will welcome a new musical, “Come From Away,” in 2017 with unlikely subject matter: the aftermath of the 9/11 terror attacks. Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein wrote the book, music and lyrics of the show, which is set in the tiny town of Gander, Newfoundland — whose population doubled on Sept. 11, 2001 when 38 planes and 6,579 passengers were re-routed there. The production will begin performances at a Shubert Organization-owned theater in February, following runs at Washington, D.C.’s Ford Theatre and and Toronto’s Royal Alexandra Theatre last fall, Junkyard Dog Productions announced Thursday. The script of the film is based on the titular theory, which indulges the idea of repeating lives of different individuals through the years. One of the theory’s most famous examples is the lives of U.S. Presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. Both presidents had seven letters in their last names, were elected to the senate 100 years apart (Lincoln in 1846 & Kennedy in 1946), became presidents 100 years apart (Lincoln in 1860 & Kennedy in 1960) and both were assassinated on Fridays, with Lincoln killed in Ford Theatre & Kennedy killed in a Ford vehicle. Both presidents were succeeded by presidents named Johnson that were born a 100 years apart (Andrew Johnson born in 1808 and Lyndon B. Johnson born in 1908).

Kim Seok-hyeon’s life is ideal. He has a gorgeous wife, a wonderful daughter and he is...

Maker Studios To Make Television Debut With Scripted History Channel Series
For the first time, Maker Studios will be distributing its content on cable television with Crossroads of History, a scripted short that is part of the History channel’s just-announced late-night comedy block.

Crossroads will explore little-known historical anecdotes, according to a press release, including “how President Lincoln’s alcoholic bodyguard, John Parker, chose the wrong night to leave his post at the Ford Theatre and how rejection from art school set a young artist, Adolf Hitler, on a very different career path.” The series is being produced by Maker alongside Trium Entertainment.

In addition to representing untread territory for the Disney-owned digital network, Crossroads is also being used to test a new distribution model, according to VideoInk. Each of the series’ eight episodes will debut on the History channel exclusively for 48 hours, before syndicating to Maker’s and History’s digital destinations. As the deal is intended to be highly experimental,...

Les Misérables star Aaron Tveit: 'I'd love to be in the Wicked movie'
Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, and Eddie Redmayne in Les Misérables (2012)
Broadway actor Aaron Tveit has said that he would love to star in a future Wicked movie.

The Les Misérables actor played the character of Fiyero on Broadway in 2008, and told Digital Spy that he thinks the musical will translate well as a movie.

"That's such a fantastic story, and they do a really good job at creating that world on stage," he said. "That would be a fantastic movie.

"Oz the Great and Powerful created such a beautiful, colourful, vibrant world, and I think Wicked could do the same thing. The Wicked book is actually much darker, so they could also go underneath and show that in the film."

When asked if he would like to be involved in the project, he said: "I would definitely be open to that. It's a show and a part that I love, but I've heard nothing about it! It would definitely be something I'd be interested in,...

Who has killer looks and the chops to play John Wilkes Booth?
Anyone who's read James Swanson's thrilling Manhunt or Doris Kearns Goodwin's Team of Rivals has envisioned who might play Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth in a movie adaptation and been tantalized by simmering in-development projects involving Steven Spielberg and Liam Neeson or Harrison Ford. But perhaps news of Robert Redford's Lincoln-assassination film, The Conspirator, will finally resurrect such colorful historical characters for the screen. Though the film is primarily about Mary Surratt, who was hanged for her participation in the assassination, Booth is undeniably the killer role. Remember, Booth was a famous actor in his own time who single-handedly impacted history. We're talking about a murderer who delayed his escape from Ford Theatre so he could deliver one final theatrical line of dialogue: "Sic semper tyrannis." It's too surreal to completely fathom a contemporary comparison. Buried in a Risky Business Blog scoop about Redford's project, which hopes to shoot this fall,...

The International (Sony) An Interpol agent (Clive Owen) joins forces with a Manhattan D.A. (Naomi Watts) to bring down an arms dealing ring and a corrupt global banking cartel that’s funding them. Superlative thriller was oddly ignored by critics and audiences alike, but expertly blends intelligence (courtesy screenwriter Eric Warren Singer’s masterfully-crafted script) and full-throttle action (director Tom Tykwer stages one of the great film shoot-outs in New York’s iconic Guggenheim Museum), making this dynamite thriller reminiscent of the best work from masters such as John Frankenheimer and Robert Aldrich. Armin Mueller-Stahl is wonderful as a world-weary covert op. Bonuses: Extended scene; Featurettes; Trailer. Widescreen. Dolby 5.1 surround.

The Jack Lemmon Film Collection(Sony) Five films from the two-time Oscar winning actor, focusing on his early career: Phfft! is a zippy comedy from 1954, one of Lemmon’s earliest films, in which...
