My biggest plot hole peeve is that they don't seem quite loopy/out of it enough for the length of time they have been without sleep. But the acting is surprisingly not awful--it fully seems like a group of buddies bickering and joking. I had questions, but they were answered in a surprising way! A refreshing take on the genre! Not a total waste of time!
I was lead astray by the positive reviews, this was wildly disappointing. The amount of unclaimed potential could have fed us all for months. If you're into movies where not much happens to characters you won't care about then this is for you.
DEPRIVATION is the first low-budget film where I wondered where the budget actually went: supposedly, it cost $500,000, but the action takes place mostly in a large cottage, there are only four actors and three crew beside the the cast, including the actor/director/screenwriter, and apparently they did not even have a make-up artist to prevent the actors from still looking refreshed after days of supposed lack of sleep.
The premise, that three friends go to a remote cottage and try to film themselves staying up for 6 nights and 7 days could have been the source of excellent psycho-drama. Instead, the film goes the cheap route with mostly banal recollections, strange noises and unexplained happenings, and in the end it turns out it was all BS anyway.
I believe when someone is sleep-deprived, you can tell not just by their appearance but also by the change in their demeanor and speech. There was a little bit of that, but at no point could I let go of the impression that I was watching actors act.
This was a disappointment all the way through.

I have to say they did a good job and they got me. I was feeling a little condescending at parts and they ended up pulling off a pretty good indie horror flick here.
This is not an effects-fest, nor does it claim to be. It's three guys experimenting in sleep deprivation at a buddy's cabin and it sticks with that.
I wasn't sure what to expect - but the actor I had the most concerns about really created a character with some heart that the other two could work with.
I enjoy horror movies. I sometimes feel the vitreol lobbed at smaller endevours with limited resources are asked to deliver at a level they never claimed to be in.
If you are looking to have a few beers and spend 90 minutes watching something cooked up by a few guys with some talent you could do worse than give this one a go.
I enjoy the documentary format and this is a pretty good starter project. I'd like to see more from this Writer.

Slow burn found footage done right. Good performances overall, great concept. It's too bad that so few people have seen this. It isn't perfect, but it manages to pull you in and keep your interest. The first act leave a lot to be desired but if you stick with it you will be rewarded with found footage done correctly.
