Cults are a classic horror film troupe for good reason… In Dementer our protagonist Katie (Katie Groshong) runs away from a cult and takes a job caring for people with special needs in a centre. Our opening scene of running naked through the woods, with some surreal horror elements is suitably tense and peculiar.

Our “low on background checks” special needs centre plays out in the manner of a fly on the wall documentary and it works rather well. Katie gets involved with the patients drawing and colouring. She seems to care about the people, and she is clearly off to a good start. She befriends one of the patients, Stephanie, in particular/ Sadly, her past seems to be just behind her. Phantom Of The Mall will enjoy a special screening in the September line-up

The Arrow Video FrightFest 2021 team today revealed the line-up for their online edition, which will take place from 1 to 5 September, two days after the London-based main event. It includes an extensive selection of highlights like Night Drive, Ultrasound and Sweetie, You Won't Believe It, along with a few extras, such as the first chance to see Chad Crawford Kinkle's Dementer in the UK.

The five day long event will also include an early chance to see some highly anticipated trailers, and perhaps a preview or two. The teams behind some of the films will be online to talk about their work and take questions from viewers.

"FrightFest will always see the collective theatrical viewing experience as central to our mission," said festival director Alan Jones. "Nothing can replace the anticipatory buzz waiting for the house lights...

For this writer, it’s been fascinating to watch the evolution of Dark Star Pictures over the last few years, as they’ve become one of the most interesting distributors working in the genre space today, showcasing films like Jumbo, Pvt Chat, Dementer, Attack of the Demons, Koko-Di Koko-Da, and Climate of the Hunter, as well their most recent release, Honeydew, which makes its digital debut this week.

Hello, everyone, and welcome to a brand new month of streaming! Hard to believe it’s already March, but that just means we have a new slate of VOD and Digital releases to look forward to, and the next few weeks are bringing us a lot of cool entertainment to enjoy at home. Shudder’s March release calendar is chock-full of great films that I heartily recommend genre fans check out, Netflix has a few new offerings that are well worth your time, and Arrow is kicking off March on the right foot with the digital debut of Jill Gevargizian’s The Stylist.

Dementer is a new horror film from writer/director Chad Crawford Kinkle (Jugface) that explores the unstoppable, unpredictable nature of evil.

Katie (Katie Groshong) has recently escaped life inside a strange cult (led by genre fave Larry Fessenden), and is looking to make a fresh start. Living out of her car, and with nowhere to go, she finds a glimpse of hope when she secures a job at a disability resource center. She seems to fit right in—she interacts well with the residents, displays an air of responsibility, and genuinely feels like she might be able to make a positive contribution in this role.

Smithland Films has debuted an official trailer for this indie horror thriller called Dementer, the second feature from filmmaker Chad Crawford Kinkle (of Jug Face previously). This is premiering at the Nashville Film Festival coming up this month, hence this new trailer to promote that festival debut. After fleeing a creepy backwoods cult, a woman tries to turn her life around by taking a job in a home for special needs adults only to discover that she must face her dark past to save a down syndrome girl.
