The Space Between Us

This actually had the potential to be an endearing short film, but it turned out to be yet another formulaic, self-indulgent gay creepy old man's fantasy. The full frontal scene with what appears to be an underage boy left me feeling unclean for watching it (as if the young actor was taken advantage of for participating in this film). I highly do NOT recommend anyone watch this, and I hope the young actor was very well compensated for doing this piece...as he deserved it. And the director/writer should be ashamed.

The only problem of this short film remains the absence of purpose. A middle age man. A teenager. A motel room. A long talk and nudity as only support for memory of the viewer. You know the story scene by scene. And that is not a virtue in this case. Something is ignored and that something could be the ingredient to do the story credible. Like in other short films of the same director, suggestion is the basic tool. And beautiful cinematography who , without be original as idea, is only a detail who reminds the errors about story. But few images are enough for create a decent short film ?

I saw the film unaware of the film-maker's background as a brazen pedophile (he is a "photographer" and has worked for a couple of mainstream magazines, but generally known for his use of underage models in sexualized context). While the subject matter of this short COULD have been done tastefully, it turned out to be a very creepy, self-indulgent excuse to capitalize/exploit another young model. I wish I had been warned before watching this film; if you are not a pedophile you will feel very unclean after watching it. I can only hope the young actor was at the very least well compensated for this, but somehow I doubt it, as the film maker clearly has no shame.
