I enjoyed the film. The well-known actors gave solid performances and I thought the rest of the cast performed well. To be honest, I read the book several years ago and liked it, but didn't love it; something seemed to be missing for me. The actors put flesh on the characters and brought them to life in a most satisfactory way. I was able to fill more emotionally attached. There were poignant moments but the movie stayed mostly lighthearted. There were also a few examples of turning the bad into something beautiful that appealed to me.
The soundtrack is great! I was 12 in 1967, so many memories were stirred via the music, fashion, and more included in the film. It takes place during a turbulent time in American history and has sad elements, but it was also a kinder, more simple time. The laughter, in the film and from the viewers, remind us that it's possible to keep finding joy despite heartache and misunderstandings. But the final message all should receive is the importance of family and forgiveness and the need for faith to sustain us. This is definitely a "popcorn movie" to enjoy with friends, but I believe it's worth seeing. Check it out!

We almost bypassed this one, not immediately recognizing who stars in it. And I have to say that the vast majority of movies we watch (or try to) on the Hallmark Channel have pretty blasé acting and repeated storylines set in different settings.
Not so this film. Everyone put in a solid performance, and the storyline is one we hadn't come across before.
The two dance scenes are outstanding. And we enjoyed the endearing story of a gift Ruby gets.

Melissa Gilbert and Corbin Bernsen give amazing, flawless performances that together stand When We Last Spoke on its admirably sturdy spine. This movie will surely make you laugh and cry. James Welch Henderson Arkansas 6/4/2021.
First, the cars have to be right for a period movie and they were for the late 60's. I hate it when I see a 70's car in a 60's period movie. This is a TV movie that contains some exceptional acting. I agree with "jonathangrubbs" that Cloris Leachman, Darby Camp and Chandler Head were very good. There was one scene, however, where Corbin Bernsen was downright GREAT.
Oh my. I'm feeling all the feels. I laughed, sighed, gasped, and cried (a lot) during the last hour and forty-seven minutes. When We Last Spoke overflows with love, family, friends, and the sweet spirit of forgiveness.
I enjoyed every single character in this meaningful film. The unconventional family dynamic of Walt (Popo) Ruby (Mamaw) Juliet (Rabbit) and Evangeline (Squirrel) warmed my heart.
It was fun being transported back to the music and atmosphere of the late 60s, and the southern culture and the stability of the North Star gave this story added depth and charm. I loved the actors, the acting, the humor, and the touching moments. I loved Cloris Leachman's humorous and tender moments, Corbin Bernsen as an older, gentle soul, and Melissa Gilbert as the endearing family matriarch. But I especially enjoyed Darby Camp and Chandler Head (the young girls.) They are remarkable and lovable little actors!
This sweet, nostalgic film will make you yearn to hug, call, or drive home to your loved ones.
