The movie that I saw today: Adangumaru (Tamil)
--------------------------------------------------
Karthik's Adangumaru is a great thriller. A big salute to Karthik who wrote and directed himself for the first time . I thought it was a normal police story when the story was started. The main character of this film is Jayam Ravi's performance. At the very least it's a super film. That's the rating I give: 3.7 / 5

Same old revenge seeking protagonist. But the screenplay is engaging even if it's predictable.
Ravi has done a decent job, justifying his character. We can feel quite feel his anger and his thirst seek revenge.
Director has done a good job on his first venture.
Worth while watching this flick, if u watch it without any comparisons/criticism to find loopholes & logical errors.

Interesting plot but very poorly executed.
Specifically editing was the worst.
Screenplay was overall Okay with few twists & turns.
Music was not good enough.
Characterisations was good enough.
Overall: the plot was very much interesting and it could've been executed in a much better interesting way.
1st half was poor & the 2nd half kept somewhat engaged because of those revenge sequences.

What if you treat a vintage 80s story of an angry young man taking on the system with a pinch of technology - you will get Adangamaru. The first 40 minutes is completely drab and nothing new. Its only at the interval point you see some freshness in the script. What makes this movie unique is it has enough heroism and drama, despite lack of 'in-the-air' fight scenes and majority of the 2nd half taking place in an investigation room. Its entertaining and not a bad movie though the story is cliched.

Revenge films are a very known genre in Tamil cinema. We have seen many action films that revolve around the revenge theme. Jayam Ravi's Adanga Maru joins this list and let's see how it actually worked. Adanga Maru starts off like any other action film. It has everything to project Jayam Ravi as a mass hero. Jayam Ravi plays the role of Subhash, a newly joined police officer who can't tolerate injustice. Unlike his previous cop films, Jayam Ravi underplays this character to make sure that he has something relevant to say to the audience. In the first half, we see him tied up by his higher officials which eventually, leads him to the biggest downfall in his life. In the second half, we see him rise from the ashes and instead of fighting for justice as any hero does usually, he plays a different game with the antagonists. This film, initially, deals with a very sensitive topic that makes around in Tamil films for the past few years. The director tries to convey a strong message through a compiling and engaging action revenge thriller. He is brilliantly adding a cat and mouse game with a strong freshness and uniqueness to it. Eventually, the film transforms into a superhero kind subject later on which slightly feels unrelatable and illogical at the same time. Except for Jayam Ravi, we don't get any strong characters to confront him. He is the only one lifting the film on his own shoulders. The director tried in Adanga Maru to blend the usual revenge drama with a high tech cat and mouse game which seems to fairly work with the audience. Sam C.S's average soundtrack is compensated by a very strong and intense background score which works in favor of the revenge theme of the film. Overall, Adanga Maru is a slightly refreshing action thriller.

Jayam Ravi. Say what you will about his earlier film choices being remakes or below average ventures. The man has shown to persevere despite his lack of dumdaar vocals usually heard in most crime thrillers. After Ajith Kumar's cop act in YENNAI ARINTHAAL (2015), here's another cop thriller that entertains and keeps you glued in from start to finish.
Like all crime thrillers, there's a major arc that acts a common thread between the corrupt department and the messiah cop himself. Unlike what we've seen umpteen times starting with Atlee/Vijay starrer THERI & the recently released Rohit Shetty's SIMMBA is that the messiah's themselves fret and frolick around the first half with their love interests, bumbling comedy (if you call Yogi Babu, Rajendran comedians, no judgement) and all around the verbal diahrrea claiming police should be A,B,C, 1,2 3. This is followed by over-the-top heroism, dialogue-baazi, songs that act as speed breakers (especially in the latter-half of the film) and finally a punch-statement/moral to wrap up the film. Adanga Maru does away with this to an extent.
While the first half starts ordinarily, the film takes its leisure to setup the who's who of the story and carefully places one circumstance after another to get the viewer hooked instead of exhausting them with aforementioned antics that say a big star can get away with (or rather blind-sided by his loyal fans.) The intro and love songs while functional, could have been trimmed and limited to just promo songs for the film instead of be included for the feature film.
But once the pre-interval scenes come into the play, the film doesn't linger further and jet-speeds on from the start of the second half all the way into the finish line without throwing everything at once at the viewer. The cat and mouse scenes with Ravi and Sampath are the highlight and I shall not reveal anything more. The film rests on Ravi and only he can do such roles unlike the current crop of heroes in Tamil Cinema. This is also Sampath's best til date and it's refreshing to see him not going into usual villany histrionics as seen in the past.
Dear Atlee, Rohit Shetty/Team Simmba, THIS is how you make a taut police thriller without being flamboyant, preachy and over-the-top.

Excellent Movie. Jayam Ravi and everybody acted very well in the movie. Songs and BGM in the movie were somewhat good. The movie was interesting in 1st half. The movie lagged at 2nd half. The movie had some illogical scenes. The movie has some interesting twists and turns. The movie could have been more interesting. Excellent Movie.

Adangamaaru is a Tamil Revenge Thriller released in 2018. Coming to the plot of the movie Jayan portrayed the role of the Hero who is a Darring and Intelligent Police Officer who came across an incident and decides to dig up the culprits behind it.
The movie is a mix of emotions ranging to Fun, Family Love and Action. A perfect cup for the movie lovers. But the mix failed with the age-old cliche narration and predictable storyline. The entire cast has nothing to do and clearly lacked a potential Director's hand behind the screen. Director failed to build from what was in the script.
The background score had failed miserably and was irritating often. The heroism of the lead is always elevated by a cruel and hard Antagonist. But Adangamaru is a perfect example for miscasting and depthless villain characters.
Even though the story was a cliche revenge thriller the only engaging and exciting factor was the method of revenge. Though it isn't that great, it was the only thing better about the whole movie.
Positives: * Sorry i didn't felt anything positive about the movie. Negatives: * Direction * Poor Screenplay * Background Score * Casting * Performance of the whole cast
Rating: 2/5 Note: Could have been better with a proper casting and a good team behind and on screen.

I wonder how this actor gets movies. I mean, every film I have seen of his on TV are just terrible and his acting is so horrible. Even a side actor does a lot better acting. I don't get how come they keep casting him and pushing movies after movies. The whole film is just feels fake.
