Let's not be too Harsh about "Let's Not Meet"

Okay, here's the deal. A low budget movie doesn't earn a pass exclusively because it was made with little cash. It deserves whatever review it gets based on how engaging and entertaining it is. Enter the indie demonic horror flick "Let's Not Meet". This dude Ryan Callaway had an idea for a film. Then he wrote and directed the damn thing. Yeah, so it's not gonna be nom'd for an Oscar. However, it is also not a total piece of crap.

The no-name acting troupe is not entirely devoid of talent, the subversive plot can't be roundly dismissed and the get-your-kicks quotient is not nearly negligible. Which, let's be real, is a helluva lot more than you can say about FAR too many multi-multiplex mega money mediocre to miserable big budget a-BOMB-inations.

So there.

Poor acting

The pizza delivery girl is the only one who acted ok, sort of. Everyone else appears to be reading from a script, not believable and boring. Poor acting overall.

Just terrible....and bad

Bad acting, bad writing, bad timing, and camera work, confusing plot. Other than that it was just ok. I know nothing about making movies, directing, or producing. But I swear 3 high school kids made this movie with 10 grand using the people in their neighborhood.

Let's not Watch

2 out of 10. One for the girl with the red hair that could act, and one for the cool-looking monster. 'Nuff said.

Watching this made me sad...

Not as good as what I would expect from a high school film project. Bad writing, worse acting and directing. And as usual for films like this a story that makes abdolutely no sense.

How Not to Make a movie of any genre.

I don't know what peaked my interest in watching this. I tried. This had to be the Longest Movie ever made. An evidently incapable director directing people that have no clue what acting means does not a blockbuster make. I lost interest, ALL interest 20 mins = 2 hrs conceptual time into the movie. If you make it till the end Gd bless you.

Seriously?

A homeschooled Christian pizza delivery girl, a resourceful girl scout, a couple of bratty IT girls, and two park rangers who know their stuff - are all brought together over the course of one long night when they fall prey to sinister figures lurking in the woods.

The film was made on a microbudget and there are some problems (as they are with any movie, big budget or small), but frankly you can tell that from the trailer and lack of name actors. From where I sit the money was spent well enough.

The 3.8 rating is absolutely absurd. We could debate the acting, but overall I think everyone did a good job in their respective roles. Breanna Engle especially shines as our unexpected hero, but Kate Kenney, Hiram Ortiz and the others all held their own. No one is overacting or wooden.

The writing is strong. Smart dialogue, and unlike most horror movies today it actually has three acts and solid character development. There is a lot going on in the movie but it all ties together in the end. I also found a lot of the imagery striking, especially the use of shadows in certain scenes. Best of all nothing was too dark to see which is often the case with these movies.

The pace in the first half hour or so could be a little uneven. I watched it with some friends who had to be pulled back in -which they were once the stuff hits the fan. We could also debate character decisions. That being said, when you're 10 miles away from your cars in the woods, running is not always the best option. Especially with bear traps lying around and injuries.

And yeah, it was clearly not made for a lot of money. But anyone rating this movie a 1 or 2 out of 10 is being a little ridiculous. I really liked this movie, but even if we're being objective - there is a lot to like here.

Tense Low Budget Pleaser

Good Scary Fun

High school rivals are reunited when a fateful night brings them together in a battle for survival deep in the woods.

The Good: For starters the main characters include a religious pizza delivery girl and the It Chicks who once bullied her in high school, as well as a couple Park rangers in training. That's a clear recipe for fun and the writing is spot on. Everyone stands out with their own motivations and characteristics, and the actors breathed authentic life into them.

The music was, for lack of a better term - great. Often these low budget affairs have terrible stock music that ruins any possible tension the film may've had. The music here is really effective, atmospheric, and elevates key moments.

Great story with multiple threads that come together in the end. Everything makes sense and it's easy to figure out as the movie goes along without insulting the audiences' intelligence. Nothing is spoon fed which I always appreciate.

The lighting was also quite good. Some of the scenes in the woods looked far better than they should've on a low, low budget.

It's effective. Some scenes are actually scary, even without jump scares, and there's a good amount of humor throughout.

The Bad: It's a low budget film. If you're exclusively into Hollywood stuff this probably won't be for you. The film looks good, but not $50,000 camera good. Production values overall are closer to a tv show or syfy flick. If that would bother you - skip it.

Also some of the lighting was inconsistent in some of the tent scenes. I noticed only because in some shots it's really wonderfully lit - lots of shadows and a certain edge to the visuals. Other shots it's well lit and loses the eeriness a bit.

Overall it's a really solid film

It's pretty rough

I've seen better acting in junior high drama class. If my child made this as their film school project I'd stop sending money for tuition. Boring and underdeveloped plot and characters. Terrible acting that is more like awkward recital of barely memorized lines. Poor camera and lighting quality. Choppy edits.

They should have made a found footage to help hide their poor talent.

Where she'll I begin

Wow what a film lol. The acting was horrendous I mean seriously the actors was saying things that was out of place, they was saying things that they didn't even know that had happened, they was doing things that was out of order E.G. when Jessica's boyfriend got his heart ripped out she had a gun pointed at the killer and said " leave us alone or I will shoot" seriously I would of shot the killer lol.

Brittany had a torch and was using it in the daylight whilst walking across what looked like a field.

The name of the film don't even go with the film either.

Not the worst thing I've seen this year

The acting is actually the best part of this movie. The worst part is that nothing in this movie makes sense.

Ineresting, unique story

Definitely low-budget and the acting was uneven at times, but a fun slasher flick.

One thing that doesn't cost a lot of money but many other low-budget films omit is an actual plot. This has suspense, a little gore and story that had me second guessing what was happening. Even the climactic encounter dodged the formulaic and predictable. The heroine seemed realistic and didn't exhibit unbelievable skills.

The editing could have been a bit tighter to keep the suspense high (in a few places it lagged and seemed sluggish) but overall a worthy addition to the genre.

I admit, I had to Google the title to learn its relevance.

Let's Not Meet

The title is from an internet forum called Reddit where people submit their supposedly true scary stories. This film is definitely inspired by those, but it has a bit of "No Sleep" in there as well toward the end. I used to love listening to the "Let's Not Meet" podcast before it changed, and this movie was basically like having some of those stories brought to life. Isolated settings, eerie vibe, and numerous very sketchy villains.

Deserves better than its current rating of 3.8 - don't let the low reviews put you off.

Nice low budget indie slasher style movie. Good lighting to see what was happening as set at night. Nice reveals from the shadows and a few jump scares. The characters were likeable. Go the girl power. Watch past the credits for bonus scene.

B Horror for sure.

This movie was alright in my book. If you are a fan of B horror you will enjoy it. The acting wasn't the greatest but you can tell it was made on a very small budget. I have heard the Let's Not Meet" story about the pizza girl on Reddit, so it was nice to see it put to film. I could see it being a cult classic in a few years.

Atmospheric

Even before anything happened I was on the edge of my seat! It's very tense and suspenseful without being gory. I love camping themed horror movies and this was a cool kind of throwback to 80's slashers, but with a unique storyline and a great cast (not just the "final girl"). No sex was also a nice touch!

Great Throwback

Fun little gem of a movie. It has a suspenseful and somewhat eerie tone throughout, a lively and diverse cast, and smart writing. Best of all you it's an homage to 80's slashers like Friday the 13th and early 2000's classics like Jeepers Creepers. I would love to see what this team could do with a bigger budget.
