Whose Streets?

Netflix Added Over 35 New Movies/TV Shows This Week
Image
Before we move ahead into the final week of November, let’s take a look back at what’s arrived on Netflix over the past seven days. In total, 39 titles have dropped on the streaming service from last Sunday the 15th to this Sunday the 22nd. Broken down, that’s 27 fresh movies and 12 new TV series, making for quite an impressive haul.

When it comes to original films, this past week saw the debut of stop-motion short Alien XMas, comedy special Kevin Hart: Zero F**ks Given and festive sequel The Princess Switch: Switched Again. Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square special also arrived, which couldn’t have been better timed given the singer’s rise to hero status this week.

As for newly licensed pics, some of the highlights include animated sequel Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, acclaimed civil rights drama Loving, comic book movie V for Vendetta...

Netflix Added 6 New Movies And TV Shows Today
Image
Netflix is adding six new titles this Tuesday, November 17th. It’s not one of the busiest days that the streamer has ever had, but there are still a handful of fresh movies and TV shows coming our way. And among them is a new comedy special, a family-friendly animation and an Oscar-nominated film.

There are four movies that just hit Netflix today. Ainu Mosir is a Japanese coming-of-age drama about a 14-year-old boy who travels to a forest believed by his people to be a path to the dead, hoping to reunite with his deceased father. 2017 documentary Whose Streets?, meanwhile, which is even more timely and frightening now than it was a few years ago, is an unflinching look at how the people of Ferguson, Missouri reacted following the murder of black teen Mike Brown by a white police officer.

We also have 2016’s Loving, a romantic drama based...

Netflix Is Adding 13 New Movies/TV Shows This Week
It’s going to be another busy week for Netflix, who released the fourth season of The Crown today. As well as several new exclusive productions, though, the streamer also has some decent licensed content coming up and more Christmas titles as we head closer to the festive period. What, then, are some of the notable additions as Netflix move into the last few weeks of November?

Well, tomorrow brings Jeff Nichols’ critically praised drama Loving, which is about an interracial relationship in 1960s Virginia. Later in the week, subscribers can then catch up on or revisit the Danny Trejo-starring cult favorite Machete Kills, which puts the action star front and center. Viewers will also get the chance to see documentary Whose Streets?, and its exploration of the Ferguson uprising, as well as If Anything Happens I Love You, a short animated film dealing with parents and the loss...

‘Wilmington on Fire’ Screening to Kick Off Blk Docs Film Initiative
Image
Speller Street Films and The Luminal Theater have launched Blk Docs, a new monthly series that is dedicated to Black documentary filmmakers.

The initiative, which will kick off on June 25 with a virtual screening of documentary “Wilmington on Fire,” intends to help build an authentic documentary film culture within the Black American community through film screenings, webinars, and more interactive film events.

Per Speller Street Films, “Wilmington on Fire,” directed by Christopher Everett, unpacks the truth behind the Wilmington Massacre, the only successful coup d’etat on American soil. In 1898, in Wilmington, Nc, an armed mob of Democrat-backed white supremacists opened fire on thriving middle-class Black American neighborhoods, slaughtering hundreds and exiling thousands out of the city for good. Tulsa and Rosewood have long been infamous, but Wilmington came first and was even more devastating in its effects.

Using rare photographs, original research, and testimonies from the descendants of the victims,...
