The Young Cannibals brought a nice premise, a good execution, ok actors/dialogue, overall I was intrigued and had fun with this one. In the woods horrors are quite possibly the easiest ones to make, right there next to zombies, yet this one managed to bring something new to the table. Just a little more that you'd expect, but it made quite the difference.
So if you're a fan of the genre, don't go in expecting a masterpiece, but be prepared to see more than the usual, a genuine plot that evolves throughout the movie, characters that have more than one layer and...well I wish I could say more about the monster but probably the budget just couldn't cover for a better one.
Still, it was a pleasant surprise thus I will recommend it.
Cheers!

You won't be overwhelmingly surprised by what's happening, there's no spectacular plot, but that's normal for the genre anyway.
The atmosphere is well created in my opinion, mainly thanks to the soundtrack that fits well, pictoresque terrain and quite good actors (tho some characters were a bit annoying).
The directing was alright, yet some editing seemed weird, maybe to save some dosh on special effects regarding the monster having dinner.
Pretty solid for a film that most probably had a rather small budget.

I always try and write a balanced review based on many things including the budget and genre.
Most low budget horrors these days are awful but this is not that bad compared to most.
For a start it is a bit bizarre and i like bizarre, odd , weird and the creature effects are rather well done for the budget. Add in the excellent although overpoweringly loud old style Claudio Simonetti'esque synth music and it does give somewhat of an atmosphere as well as the spooky location which most low budget horror fails to achieve.
The opening scene was excellent and did give hope that the rest may be as good but although it did not quite meet up to initial expectations it is by my definition an average horror and certainly does not deserve anything less than a 5/10.

My original review was pretty tough on these guys, and immediately received 3 'unhelpful' votes which leads me to believe that the filmmakers are keeping a close eye on their imdb page, which then prompted me to check out their profile on here and when I saw that this was their first feature-length film, I felt some remorse over my harsh review. With that in mind, I don't have the same feelings about it. I still think it's a 3/10 but I don't think this work deserves to be insulted. For a couple of independent directors to make this film, that's a pretty good accomplishment. Instead of trashing this debut, I'd rather say keep working at it, there's potential here. It wasn't a complete waste of my time but it wasn't anything remarkable, but that's alright. There will be those who receive this movie well, but it just wasn't for me. I'm not the type of person who wants to complain about an independent project as soon as it's released, especially one that the filmmakers and crew probably didn't receive much of a financial return on. Give it a try if you like gore and creature features. It's worth a watch just for the great soundtrack alone.

Seemed to have some promise when it started out, up until the point where the kids were left in the woods (and why the old nutjob left the van with them rather than tossing them out and driving off, no one will ever know). After that, it got pretty boring because there was just too much time between attacks, and I started fast-forwarding to see if there was any decent gore (and there was some). The monster looked like someone dressed in a monster suit, so wasn't particularly scary. For me, the real entertainment I get out of a monster flick is either comedy or gore (or both), and this didn't have enough of either. The ending was kind of funny though (the real ending, not the little scene at the end of the credits)

Its actually pretty good for the genre. Some scenes are just painful but overall with a name like "Young Cannibals" don't expect anything other than its genre.

This movie has an interesting premise, but it goes nowhere. The acting is poor and the story is hard to understand for as simple as I think it is supposed to be. At the end of the day, not much happens and not much is scary. Its below average cannibal horror.

...hence my note. I'm not a production shill nor an idiot. I'm not comparing this movie to, say, Rosemary's Baby by giving it that rating, but I have no problem admitting that I really felt the urge to try to compensate a bit for the unfair average that it's holding currently - a 4 out of 10 as I write this -. It's a nice, low-budget creature feature made by and for people with a lot of love for 80's horror, and it shows. They achieved a nice atmosphere, cinematography was okay and made good use of the locations, camerawork was competent and, generally speaking, they achieved something that, for my money, is a nice and entertaining creature-in-the-woods flick that held my attention and didn't felt like it was insulting my intelligence.
Oh, by the way, I'm sure that some people will downvote this review just because of what I'm about to say, but I don't care - I'm sure that it might help some people who come in here and look at reviews to help decide what to watch on movie night -: this movie is completely, 100% woke-free. As this is becoming something increasingly rare and, consequently, sought-after by certain people, I'm certain that this PA bit is bound to be helpful for someone.
To the filmmakers, good job and thank you. Please make more, I'm eager to support them as you keep making them.

This movie is a mixed bag in every way , while some scenes
are truly awful just like that we get scenes that are really good !
Also a fantastic sound track something lower budget movies
Seem to get wrong . In fact it was the music and sounds that
made me stay with this one . Not bad at all .

No pun intended - sometimes a monster is something literal ... something we project. Of course as the cover and poster already reveal we have quite the physical monster here. But can you really see it? Sorry for another pun I reckon, but I had to.
This is quite low budget and if you like horror movies, you could do worse than watching this one. As the next movie made quite clear - next movie I watched that is. This right here is into the woods and has quite the strong opening ... one that suggests that the movie may be better than the final product even? Well you'll be the judge of that. Good effects overall and maybe one twist too many ... still decent overall.

Ethan (Benjamin Sarpona-Broni) breaks girlfriend Nat (Megan Purvis) out of a psych ward and together they drive off to the British countryside in his old VW Polo for a spot of camping with friends. Landowner Blackwood (David Patrick Stucky, who talks with a weird British/American accent) tricks/forces them into eating burgers made of human flesh, this then summons some strange creature that hunts cannibals! Originality is great but this is just ludicrous. Much of the running time has our unhappy campers being chased through the woods at night, this just goes on and on and on. I wouldn't blame anybody for hitting the fast forward button, at 140 minutes this is too long for a film such as this. If you suffer with insomnia then I would recommend this movie. Some of the mountain scenery (shot in the beautiful Snowdonia) is stunning. Acting quality varies between poor and OK. Being a cannibal movie you would expect gore and yes there is some but not enough to salvage this mess. One goof that caught my eye was that Ethan's VW is a N plate registration (1995/96) yet at the end when it catches fire it has an R plate (1997/98) on the rear. The movie is quite well shot, I'm sure that there is some talent here but sadly this was a boring head scratcher of a movie. There is a post end credits scene but don't lose any sleep if you missed it.

If youre in for a proffesionally made slasher horror movie, the young cannibals may not be the best choice.
but if your in for a carnivourous, psychopatic minced meat grinding cannibalistic mayhem made on a rather above average amateur level, then it might be something for you too devoure. if youre a vegan you will fall out completely safe, your botanical bodyfluids does not attract the blood tasting molars in this flick.
its a blend of eager acting and experimental film making on a low budget, the story are not strong and the editor may have hands like edward so behold....
the grumpy old man acknowledge some of the work, but not the meat gnarling parts.but its better than 1.

I'd give it one star but I did actually make it all the way through the movie, albeit while doing something else.
I wasn't surprised, but I do sometimes give a movie that looks horrible a chance and every once in a while am rewarded... this is not that once in a while. This is mindless crap - you've been warned.

Why on earth did they come up with such a complicated and nonsensical characteristic for the monster (namely it specifically attacks and subsequently eats people that themselves have eaten human flesh), it adds nothing to the rest of the story and makes the mere existence of the monster just as enigmatic as it already was! The monster itself is rather unimpressive (it seemed to be nothing more than a guy in a creepy suit), and its eating people alive was mostly restricted to taking a big bite out-of someone's neck, hardly the voracious devouring that you might expect or had hoped for. So the score on gore was (apart from an encouraging openings scene) disappointingly low.
The acting is reasonable, the atmosphere is pleasantly creepy, but at several times the pace sagged and all the aimless wandering through the dark forest became a bit repetitive and tedious. In spite of some stupid actions of the last girl standing we did get a satisfying finale, but overall my (hardly) lasting impression is: forgettable.

While I had never heard bout this 2019 horror movie titled "The Young Cannibals", of course I had to watch it as I stumbled upon it here in 2024. I do love all things horror, after all. I was instantly lured to the movie, given the movie's rather interesting cover.
However, seeing those two fairly dreaded words appear on the screen, The Asylum, I have to say that I didn't exactly harbor the biggest of expectations to the movie. Why? Well, The Asylum isn't exactly known for churning out one impressive movie after another. Sure, every now and again, on a blue moon, do they hit a homerun and deliver something good. So perhaps "The Young Cannibals" would be one such instance?
Writers Kris Carr and Sam Fowler, both of whom also directed the movie, delivered a script and storyline that didn't really cater to my liking. I found very little enjoyment in the storyline, and I was sitting throughout the entire movie with a sense of 'when will something happen?' and 'what's the point of this storyline?'. So yeah, this movie didn't really tickle me in the right places. Sure, it was not the usual mockbuster rubbish that The Asylum is known for, and that definitely counts for something, now doesn't it?
I wasn't familiar with a single actor or actress on the cast list. And that is actually something that I do enjoy when I watch a movie. The acting performances in "The Young Cannibals" were fair, I will say that much.
Something that was quite well in the movie was the effects. I like the gore effects, and The Asylum definitely upped their game here. As for the creature design, well it was rather simplistic, but it worked out well enough, I will say that.
Watchable, sure, but I have to admit that "The Young Cannibals" just didn't cut it. It simply wasn't outstanding or memorable enough to stand out in a horror genre flooded with similar movies. So this movie, while it might have flown in under the rader, it will just simply and quietly disappear and fade into the mists of oblivion without leaving a lasting impression. If you enjoy horror movies, like I do, perhaps give it a gander, you might happen to enjoy it more than I did.
My rating of directors Kris Carr and Sam Fowler's 2019 horror movie "The Young Cannibals" land on a bland four out of ten stars.
I am sort of sitting here, now that the movie ended, with a feeling of 'this is what happens if you order "Pumpinhead" from Wish'.

The low-rating for "The Young Cannibals" with a consensus that it is a bad film, would lead one to believe that its shoestring budget is to blame. But that is not the case. Like myself, anyone who watches a film like this enjoys low-budget horrors and keeps an open-mind, but what "The Young Cannibals" ultimately suffers from is the basic writing - nothing happens. Most of the film consists of the characters running and screaming in the woods. When the monster does appear, it looks half-decent, but then it is back to more monotonous running around and screaming. It is wasted from a lack of imagination.
Wouldn't have thought a film about cannibalism could be so boring.

This low budget British horror is worth giving a go at least for the last half hour which is extremely suspenseful and well played out. It is by no means a masterpiece but the direction, editing and acting are perfectly adequate and even shift up a gear for the bravura finale. For those Brits old enough to remember, it reminded me of an episode from the Hammer House of Horror tv series where each week we were entertained by a gory, wildly unlikely horror tale. I was also impressed by the ending (which is so often a major weak point in these genre films) as it is both satisfying and amusing in equal measure. So stick with it and you won't be disappointed.
