Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen in 2023 was nothing short of a cinematic spectacle. After a four-year hiatus, the Bollywood megastar stormed back with Pathaan, Jawan, and Dunki, all of which shattered box office records. Each film showcased a different facet of Srk’s versatility, and Jawan stood out for its blockbuster action, emotional depth, and, most notably, the actor’s striking bald look.

When Srk’s character was first introduced in the movie, his bald look became an instant sensation, with fans praising the actor’s ability to reinvent himself even after decades in the industry. However, as surprising as it may seem, this now-iconic appearance was never part of the original plan. It was a happy accident, as revealed by the film’s prosthetic designer, Preetisheel Singh D’Souza.

The scene made me wonder why her father, the titular Baby John (Varun Dhawan), hadn’t trained her the way that Honey instructs her young daughter Nadia in Citadel: Honey Bunny, also starring Dhawan as Nadia’s father. Nadia is such a pro at dealing with murderous attacks that when one takes place, Honey just tucks her into a trunk, puts headphones on her ears and tells her to listen to the song and not come out.

Incidentally, both Nadia and Khushi belong to a club particular within Indian cinema — that of overtly precocious kids who speak like adults. (I think of the cancer-stricken Sexy from Cheeni Kum as the president of this club.

Shah Rukh Khan is a man who needs no introduction. The King of Bollywood, Khan was on a hiatus before the last year and made his return with a bang in 2023. After his movie Pathaan grossed more than ₹1000 Crore worldwide, hardly anybody might have hoped his other movie to beat that. However, his very next movie did just that. Directed by Atlee, Jawan was a complete treat for cinema-goers and grossed more than ₹1100 Crore at the box office, becoming the second highest-grossing Hindi film after Dangal.

Besides Srk, the movie had other talented actors as well. Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Sunil Grover, Deepika Padukone, and other actors did their job perfectly and complemented Srk very well. Jawan was a huge hit, both financially and critically. However, what fans might not know about the film is that it wasn’t always called Jawan.

“Jawan” was theatrically released on 7 September 2023 in standard, IMAX, 4Dx and other premium formats, coinciding with Janmashtami. It set several box-office records for a Hindi film, overtaking those set by Khan's previous release “Pathaan”. Grossing over ₹1,148.32 crore (US$140 million), it emerged as the highest-grossing Indian film of 2023, the second highest grossing Hindi film and the fifth highest grossing Indian film of all time. Srk was seen wearing a white plain kurta pyjama, and sporting a ponytail, which is his signature ‘Pathaan’ look. He was accompanied by his younger son AbRam.

Mumbai, Sep 11 (Ians) Actress Sanya Malhotra, who is the part of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Jawan’, shared an anecdote on how she used to visit the latter’s house during her initial days of her career.

Directed by Atlee, the action entertainer also stars Nayanthara, Vijay Sethupathi, Deepika Padukone (in a special appearance), and Priyamani. Sanya plays the character of Dr Eeram in the movie.

In a Q&a session with her fans, Sanya took to Instagram Stories, and answered the queries asked by the audience for the movie ‘Jawan’.

A fan asked: ‘How was your experience working in Jawan?’, to which she replied: “it was fantastic and definitely a dream come true for me I still can’t believe still. But I am so happy that everyone is liking the film. I also liked it very much. Maine bahut sittiyaan maari. I am going to watch it again with my friends and family.

Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan, who is currently riding on the massive success of his latest release ‘Jawan’, has responded to Indian cricketer Dinesh Karthik’s detailed review of the movie, calling him a “movie buff.”

There was a time when people used to say “In Bollywood, either sex sells or Shah Rukh Khan”. Here we are 20 years later and it still is true even today. Such is the box office pull King Khan has wielded over audiences since his return. Jawan is South Indian director Atlee’s fifth film and boy does he go all in for this one. It is as if someone told him this was his only shot at making a Bollywood film. He did not hold back as the film is technically brilliant in all aspects from direction to cinematography to the VFX to the production design etc. Atlee has taken his working formula from Tamil films and made an all out mass entertainer for the Bollywood audience.

The best thing about this maara-maari-thon is, no not Shah Rukh Khan (he’s beyond human evaluation of excellence) but Deepika Padukone. She shows up in this exacerbated show of flamboyant showmanship post midpoint and instantly lights up the screen with her luminous presence.

Wish she didn’t have to go. Sadly all good things must come to an end. Mumbai, Sep 7 (Ians) Nothing succeeds like success — and who better than the Badshah himself, Shah Rukh Khan, to endorse that adage. Close on the heels of the success of his earlier release this year, ‘Pathan’, King Khan is back with yet another high-octane action thriller outlining the emotional journey of a man who is set to rectify the wrongs in the society.

By all standards, his latest, ‘Jawan’, is slightly hurried, though not in the least shoddy in terms of production values, and still manages to be an intoxicating blend of disparate ingredients. But am I complaining? Nah!

Even if there are too many over-the-top action thrills that are unrelenting in terms of their big set pieces, and enough violence go with them, ‘Jawan’ is immensely watchable. And, needless to add, entertaining!

A confused Board, an even more out-of-sync coaching support staff, a selection committee which doesn’t know what to do (it has since been kicked out), an ageing lineup with 35-year-olds trying to keep pace with the dynamic changes in white ball cricket and, despite its availability, a diverse gene pool not being given adequate opportunities, and an ecosystem that encourages hyperbole covering up warts are responsible for the dismal state of affairs.

Innumerable experiments, chopping and changing players, keeping them on tenterhooks, have together accentuated this decline. Moreover, bowlers who are capable of delivering with the jagged edge of a katana and wakizashi, such as Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik, have been kept sheathed.

In this theatre of the absurd, also known as the strange world of Indian cricket, there is only disorder and chaos. In two successive T20 World Cups over two years all these failings have shown up.
