Exclusive: Pantaya has set September 15 as the premiere date for Toda La Sangre, the crime-thriller starring Aarón Díaz and Ana Brenda Contreras.

Based on the best-selling novel by Mexican author Bernardo Esquinca, Toda La Sangre follows Casasola (Díaz), a tabloid reporter who joins forces with police lieutenant Edith Mondragón (Contreras) and Elisa (Yoshira Escárrega), a local anthropologist, who aim to decipher a series of murders that have shocked the country. Together they travel through Mexico City chasing a ritual murderer whose peculiarity is to recreate ancient Aztec sacrifices.

Yoshira Escárrega, Antonio Trejo Sánchez, Clementina Guadarrama, Cinthia Vázquez, Odiseo Bichir, and Julio Casado also star.

Produced by Fremantle Mexico, the 10-episode series is developed and produced by showrunner and executive producer Zasha Robles from Spiral International, the creator of the Emmy-winning series Falco. Mexico’s Peninsula Films & Entertainment and Monica Lozano’s Alebrije Prods. have teamed up to produce feature film “El Hombre de la Multitud” about Mexican tabloid photojournalist Enrique Metinides.

His iconic, at times grisly, photos chronicled scenes of accidents, crimes and historical events from the 1940s until 1997 in Mexico. Now 88 years old, Metinides’ career in “nota roja” photojournalism began at the age of 10 when he started riding along with policemen with the camera his father gave him. His first photo was published when he was just 12. By the age of 13, he was hired by tabloid La Prensa, albeit unpaid, and earned the nickname “El Niño” (‘The Boy’).

Exclusive: Aaron Diaz (Quantico) and Ana Brenda Contreras (Dynasty) have been set to star in Mexican crime thriller series Toda La Sangre, for Pantaya, Starzplay, Spiral International and Fremantle Mexico.

Produced by Fremantle Mexico, production is now underway on the genre series which is being directed by Luis Prieto and Hari Sama and is based on the best-selling novels by Mexican author Bernardo Esquinca.

Diaz will play the role of Eugenio Casasola, a journalist who joins forces with Lieutenant Edith Mondragon, played by Contreras, in a quest to uncover the truth behind a series of visceral murders that resemble Aztec sacrifices in modern-day Mexico City.

Prieto is best known for features such as Kidnap and directing on TV series such as White Lines and Snatch while Sama is best known for movie This Is Not Berlin.

Starzplay, the Starz-backed streamer that is available in 50 countries, has pulled the curtain back on its first slate of Spanish and Mexican originals.

The four shows (detailed below) will stream on Starzplay across Latin America, with a plan to debut select titles in Spain and in the U.S. on Starz and Spanish language streamer Pantaya.

The originals include Spain’s Bambu Producciones and La Claqueta PC making Nacho Vidal, An Industry Xxxl, which will examine the life of legendary Spanish porn star Nacho Vidal.

Meanwhile, Express is a crime thriller produced by The Mediapro Studio. Written by Ivan Escobar (Locked Up), it will focus on the rise of express kidnappings, where people are abducted for an immediate ransom.

Over in Mexico, Fremantle and Chilean production company Fabula will co-produce Señorita Mexico (working title), which tells the story of contestants training for the country’s Miss Mexico pageant in the 1980s.
