Streamers are less likely to drop services when they are able to access connected video products via credits offered by their broadband provider, according to a new report released this week.

The study, published by MyBundle on Tuesday, is based on internal data collected from one of its broadband providers, which showed the first-year monthly churn rate for subscription video on-demand, or SVOD, streaming services drops by 50 percent when customers are able to buy subscriptions through their broadband provider using discount credits.

MyBundle offers one such program through its partnership with Norvado, a Wisconsin-based broadband Internet service provider that offers a $20 monthly credit to subscribers of its 1 Gigabit plan to spend on subscription services sold through the MyBundle platform.

Streamers who took Norvado up on their offer churn out of a subscription-based video service at a rate of 4.3 percent, MyBundle said. By comparison,...

Google’s streaming cable television alternative YouTube TV is on track to overtake Comcast’s Xfinity TV and Charter’s Spectrum TV to become the biggest pay TV platform in the United States, according to a media analyst.

Last week, a forecast from research firm MoffettNathanson projected YouTube TV’s growth will accelerate to around 12.4 million paying subscribers by the end of 2026, while Comcast and Charter are expected to continue shedding pay TV customers over the next 24 months.

If that forecast proves to be accurate, YouTube TV would become the biggest pay television provider in the United States, analyst Michael Nathanson wrote in the report.

It is difficult to know how many of those subscribers will pay full price for YouTube TV, which currently costs $73 per month for...

Consolidated Communications has inked an agreement with streaming video marketplace MyBundle to offer its Internet customers additional options for their video programming needs.

The arrangement comes about four weeks after Consolidated affirmed plans to stop offering traditional cable television throughout its service footprint as part of a reorganization of its business around fiber-based Internet products.

As part of the transition away from cable television, Consolidated will point customers of its Fidium fiber Internet service to MyBundle’s streaming video marketplace, where they can explore different options to receive local and national programming along with video on-demand services.

Like the standalone version of MyBundle, Fidium customers who use the MyBundle service will be asked which local broadcast and national cable channels they want to receive, and then will be presented various options that include all or most of those channels.

Consolidated Communications will exit the cable television market by the end of the year as it focuses on building out and maintaining its land-based broadband service business.

This week, customers in some areas began receiving notifications of Consolidated’s intention to stop offering traditional cable TV service, which will affect fewer than 30,000 subscribers, or less than 10 percent of its overall customer accounts.

“Consolidated’s strategy is based on a fiber-first product offering, which provides consumers and businesses a future-proof technology with unlimited bandwidth potential. As we make this transition, it will mean sunsetting some legacy products, such as linear TV services,” a spokesperson for Consolidated Communications said in a statement.

Consolidated has started notifying customers and municipalities in the areas where it provides cable TV service with information about its forthcoming plans and guidance on...
