Monument 14

Strange Weather Films has hired Sandy Widyanata to direct "Monument 14," the first film in a series based on Emmy Laybourne's futuristic novel trilogy. Aron Warner and Andrew Adamson will produce.

The story follows fourteen kids from Monument, Colorado who are trapped in a superstore as civilization collapses outside the gates. Brad Peyton ("San Andreas") and Laybourne co-wrote the script. [Source: Variety]

A first-time feature film director will be taking the charge of Goodbye For Now when it hits the big screen.

Sandy Widyanata will direct Liongate's forthcoming adaptation of the 2012 Laurie Frankel novel of the same name.

Goodbye For Now follows an unlucky-in-love computer software engineer who creates a programme that allows users to communicate electronically with their dead loved ones via their emails, social media and online video footage.

Jessica Goldberg has adapted the screenplay, with This Is Where I Leave You's Jonathan Tropper penning rewrites.

Widyanata has directed a number of shorts and in 2009, won the Visual Effects Society Award for her work.

Project M.I.C.K. has so much awesomeness packed into just over a minute. More directors should be taking their cues from Sandy Widyanata. The film is simple, but has such cool CGI effects. I remember when I was a kid and we had a crush on someone there would be hitting or name calling involved, but this short film takes it all to a new level of video game infused cuteness.

Prabhat Chitra Mandal will organise an Australian Film Festival from June 21-27, 2011 in Mumbai, in association with the Australian Consulate in Mumbai and Ffsi.

Eight feature films and one short film from Australia will be screened as part of the festival. The screenings will be held in Chavan Centre on June 21 and 22, and Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre on June 23 and 27. The catalogue of film festival will be provided at the venues. Those interested can register for the festival at the venue.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" wowed voters at the 7th annual Visual Effects Society Awards! The Brad Pitt-starrer won 4 awards including visual effect in a visual-effects driven motion picture, and best single visual effect of the year.

"Button's" director, David Fincher was honored with the Ves Lifetime Achievement award.

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" took home four nods at the seventh annual Ves Awards, including outstanding visual effects in a visual effects-driven motion picture.

The Visual Effects Society's annual awards dinner, held Saturday night at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles, doled out three awards each to "The Dark Knight" and "Wall-e."

David Fincher, "Button's" director, presented that film's producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall with the Vew Lifetime Achievement Award. Ilm's Dennis Murren presented Phil Tippett with the Georges Melies Award.
