Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson's 'Fast X' Team-Up Is an American Streaming Hit
Image
Alan Ritchson is hard at work filming Reacher Season 4 right now, but ahead of its arrival, the star’s biggest box office hit is tearing up streaming charts. Ritchson stars alongside Jason Statham and Vin Diesel in Fast X, the 2023 Fast & Furious movie following Dom Toretto and his family, who are the targets of a brutal vengeance campaign by drug kingpin Hernan Reyes (Jason Momoa). Fast X is streaming on Starz in the United States and on Netflix globally, but it’s quietly crept into the Starz top 10 in America, sitting at #8. The film earned scores of 56% from critics and 84% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed $704 million against a $340 million budget, which makes it one of the most expensive movies ever made.

Fast X recruited plenty of stars to bring the 10th Fast & Furious movie to life beyond Ritchson, Statham, and Momoa, though.

The ‘Regretting You’ Trailer: Colleen Hoover Revived ‘The Fault in Our Stars Era’ In an Unexpected Way
Image
Colleen Hoover’s Regretting You is finally coming to the big screen, and if the trailer isn’t any indication already, the movie seems to be reviving the vibe that once made The Fault in Our Stars a global phenomenon. Why Tracy Spiridakos' Hailey Upton Left Chicago P.D.
Image
Like other long-running One Chicago shows, "Chicago P.D." has seen its share of cast changes over the years, especially when it comes to major characters. Intended main player Scott Eastwood left the franchise before his Officer Jim Barnes even had to appear on the police drama, only turning up in the two "Chicago Fire" episodes that served as a "Chicago P.D." backdoor pilot. Similarly, Sophia Bush's Erin Lindsay stepped away from "Chicago P.D." in 2017 after repeated bad experiences while filming the show, while Jesse Lee Soffer's Jay Halstead departed "Chicago P.D." in 2022 to explore other roles.

Then, in 2024, another "Chicago P.D." veteran left the series. After joining the show''s fourth season as Hailey Upton and becoming a franchise mainstay, Tracy Spiridakos chose to exit the show after "Chicago P.D." season 11. In a 2024 interview with NBC Insider, the actor explained that the reason behind her departure was similar to Soffer's,...

Why Nick Gehlfuss' Dr. Will Halstead Left Chicago Med
Image
From an acting standpoint, the One Chicago shows are essentially revolving doors that look like first responder drama series. Because of the franchise's longevity, hectic pace, frequently high stakes, and sheer multi-series scale, the main casts of the various "Chicago" shows have always had an impressive turnover. Sometimes, important characters like Elias Koteas' Alvin Olinsky on "Chicago P.D." and Yuri Sardarov's Otis on "Chicago Fire" shockingly exit the property because the story demands it. Other times, actors decide to opt out of the long, intense filming periods in Chicago before their series even really begin, which is how Scott Eastwood left the One Chicago franchise after appearing on the "Chicago P.D." backdoor pilot in "Chicago Fire" season 1.

Even amidst all these changes, the franchise has a number of "lifers" -- actors who have been on the show from the beginning and become so associated with their respective series that it's...

Jensen Ackles’ ‘Terminal List’ Replacement Climbs Streaming Charts as Its Rotten Tomatoes Score Finally Rises
Image
The first season of Jensen Ackles’ new Prime Video series is almost halfway over, but the show has found continued streaming success since its premiere near the end of June. After earning comparisons to Chris Pratt’s Prime Video series, The Terminal List, Countdown has become a streaming hit globally for Prime Video, charting in the top 10 in more than 25 countries, including the United States and the U.K. Countdown debuted with a Rotten Tomatoes score from critics of 31%, but the show has begun to win over reviewers — its score has climbed to 38%. Audiences are much bigger fans of Countdown than critics, though, as the series currently sits at 72% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter. Countdown also stars Jessica Camacho (Bosch: Legacy), Eric Dane (Euphoria), and Violett Beane (Drop).

Countdown was written and created for television by Derek Haas, who is also the mind behind the One Chicago universe. Haas has written...

Tin Soldier Review: A Story Lost in Its Own Telling
Image
The architecture of a thriller relies on a clear foundation of motive and stakes. Tin Soldier presents just such a blueprint. It begins with a government-funded veterans’ support group, “The Program,” which has curdled into a dangerous cult under its messianic leader, Leon Prudhomme.

We are introduced to our protagonist, Nash Cavanaugh, a former soldier and ex-follower of the cult, now living in a state of shattered despair. The narrative engine ignites when a government agent, Emmanuel Ashburn, recruits Nash for one last mission: infiltrate the compound of the man he once followed.

The stakes become intensely personal, as Ashburn reveals that Nash’s wife, Evoli, believed to be dead, may yet be alive inside. The stage is set for a tense infiltration story, a rescue mission into the heart of a hostile organization.

The Collapse of Narrative Logic

A story’s promise is only as strong as its execution.

Tin Soldier review – Jamie Foxx leads with his hairdo in thriller about a soldier infiltrating a cult
Scott Eastwood
Scott Eastwood and Robert De Niro also star in this confusing film about an ex-soldier sent to penetrate a cult compound

Make no mistake: this action thriller is a mangled, dreary, unlovely mess and so much less than the sum of its parts – despite relatively blameless supporting turns from Robert De Niro and John Leguizamo. There’s a more culpably hammy performance from Jamie Foxx, who rocks a ginormous, weirdly contoured afro so bizarre that it’s almost worth the price alone. (He is also one of many executive producers on the project.) But Foxx’s tonsorial effort is not enough to counteract the fact that this is a pretty lousy film, only worth it if you like “sneerwatching”.

None of the big names mentioned above play the lead here. Instead, the hero is one Nash Cavanaugh (a name that sounds generated by an AI bot), as incarnated by a typically lumpen Scott Eastwood.

Why Charlie Barnett's Peter Mills Left Chicago Fire
Image
The One Chicago franchise is a strange beast that's constantly in flux while simultaneously remaining as static and unchanged as you'd assume from a group of interconnected procedural dramas. NBC might cancel "Chicago Justice," a fan-favorite like Jesse Lee Soffer's Jay Halstead might leave "Chicago P.D.," and Scott Eastwood might depart the franchise before even truly establishing himself as part of it -- but all the while, the shows trudge on, with the first responders of the Windy City navigating their difficult jobs and personal lives.

Sometimes, the cast shake-ups the property has become known for are borne out of necessity when an actor wishes to leave- However, there are other times when a major character is simply written out of the series. Such was the case with Charlie Barnett's second-generation firefighter Peter Mills, who was a prominent part of the first three seasons of "Chicago Fire...

Image
Three years before The Beekeeper, Jason Statham starred in the equally successful action hit Wrath of Man. Now, the movie is finding success on Hulu after being added to the streamer's library at the start of July.

Per FlixPatrol, a day after being added to Hulu, Wrath of Man has already landed on the streamer's Top 10 Movies list, currently sitting in the No. 9 spot. If the Statham-led action movie wants to climb higher on the chart, it will have to go through several popular features, such as the 1996 sci-fi blockbuster Independence Day, the 2013 crime comedy The Heat, the modern Disney classic Holes, and the Liam Neeson drama film Absolution. Wrath of Man's streaming success comes three years after the movie, a remake of the 2004 French film Cash Truck, conquered the box office, grossing $104 million worldwide against a $40 million budget.

Robert De Niro and Jamie Foxx’s Long-Awaited Cult Thriller Is Already a Streaming Hit Despite Abysmal Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Hollywood powerhouse Robert De Niro has had a few projects released this year, but one has quietly flown under the radar. His first release of the year was Netflix's political thriller miniseries, Zero Day, which was soon followed by the Warner Bros. gangster feature The Alto Knights. The movie recently overcame its distribution woes when Samuel Goldwyn Films officially secured its North American distribution rights. While it awaits its debut stateside, Tin Soldier has already marched onto international territory via Prime Video, where it's currently gaining traction.

Tin Soldier features a super-stacked cast. Alongside De Niro, the cult thriller also stars Jamie Foxx, Scott Eastwood, John Leguizamo (John Wick), Saïd Taghmaoui (John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum), and British singer Rita Ora. The...

Batman Fans Just Received Some Disappointing News from James Gunn
Image
Superman is set to feature multiple superheroes beyond the titular Man of Steel. Batman, however, will not be one of them.

After a fan asked Superman writer-director James Gunn, who is also co-ceo of DC Studios, on Threads, if the plan was still for Batman's live-action DC Universe debut to be in his solo movie, The Brave and the Bold, the filmmaker simply responded, "Yes." This means that Batman will also not make a cameo in Supergirl or Clayface, the latter of which is centered around one of the hero's more recognizable rogues, who will be portrayed by Doctor Who guest star Tom Rhys Harries.

Post by @jamesgunn View on Threads

Unveiled back in January 2023 as one of the first 10 Dcu projects, The Brave and the Bold hasn't received many major updates since, although fans do know that Andy Muschietti is attached to direct the Batman reboot and that an...

Overall, it's an impressive cast for a movie that's seemingly heading straight to Video on Demand (VOD) in international markets, and will likely receive the same release treatment in the U.S. Titled Tin Soldier, the action thriller focuses on a group called The Bokushi, an organization for U.S. combat veterans who are seeking a new purpose and a path forward. Jason Statham and Alan Ritchson Stole the Show in This $714 Million Action Blockbuster That’s Climbing the Streaming Charts
Image
Starz subscribers cannot get enough of the latest installment in the Fast & Furious franchise. Fast X, the tenth mainline entry in the fan-favorite action series, is currently charting on multiple Top 10 streaming lists around the world.

Per Collider, Fast X is currently available to stream on Starz in the United States and for purchase via iTunes in most international territories. During its theatrical run, the action sequel failed to gross over $1 billion worldwide like its predecessors, Furious 7 and The Fate of the Furious, earning $714 million at the box office, an amazing amount that any studio wouldn't have scoffed at. Unfortunately, Fast X had a reported production budget of $378 million, meaning that Universal barely made any profit on the movie. However, two years later, audiences are either discovering or rewatching Fast X on streaming, leading it to become one of the few movies that is charting globally right now,...

Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, and Scott Eastwood see combat and cult-like figures unleash hell in Brad Furman’s Tin Soldier trailer

What do you get when you put Scott Eastman, Jamie Foxx, and Robert De Niro in a heated trifecta between the government, highly-trained combat veterans, and a cult-like movement that could spell disaster for innocents? The Brad Furman action thriller Tin Soldier, of course! Today, Samuel Goldwyn Films and Amazon MGM Studios proudly present an explosive trailer for Tin Soldier, bringing high stakes, bad attitudes, and cool hair to a genre that never quits.

Jamie Foxx & Robert De Niro in Action Thriller Film 'Tin Soldier' Trailer
Image
"An extreme threat, requires extreme measures..." Signature Ent. in the UK has unveiled an official trailer for an action thriller movie titled Tin Soldier, the latest directed by Brad Furman. This is another one of these really bad, schlocky action movies that's getting dumped on VOD right away because it's just so uninteresting. There's still no US release set, but it will be out on Prime Video in the UK (only) this summer. "The Bokushi" offers a program for US combat veterans seeking their "purpose" and path forward. But now the Government is concerned with the rapid rise of this well-armed, highly trained program of elite mercenaries, so they recruit one who used to be a member to infiltrate & stop them. Starring Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro, Scott Eastwood, John Leguizamo, Joey Bicicchi, and Rita Ora. That's a remarkably strong cast for a movie being dumped on VOD, no idea how they pulled this off.

Why Daniel Kyri's Darren Ritter Left Chicago Fire
Image
"Chicago Fire" is a little different from your average procedural, with firefighters and paramedics at the center of the story instead of detectives, lawyers, or quirky private investigators. Over the course of the show's 13 seasons, we've gotten to know a whole incredible crew of people at the fictional Firehouse 51 in Chicago, but if the series gets a 14th season, at least one familiar face won't be returning. "Chicago Fire" fans have lost their faves before, like when Otis (Yuri Sardanov) died in season 8, but now they'll also have to say goodbye to firefighter Darren Ritter (who's played by actor Daniel Kyri).

Darren has had an interesting ride on "Chicago Fire," starting as a firefighter candidate and becoming one of the firefighters on Engine 51. As an openly gay man, he shook things up a bit around the firehouse, giving Kyri the chance to really embrace his own queer identity and abandon...

This $1.3 Billion Franchise That Charlie Hunnam Passed on Leading With 11% on Rotten Tomatoes Is Now Streaming on Peacock

Charlie Hunnam will always be known for his role as Jackson ‘Jax’ Teller in Sons of Anarchy, but many years ago, he also famously passed on a role in a major franchise that’s returned to streaming. Hunnam initially accepted the role of Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey movies, but he ended up dropping out and being replaced by Jamie Dornan, who starred opposite Dakota Johnson in the films. All three Fifty Shades movies recently hit Peacock at the start of this month, and they’re now available to watch for anyone with a standard subscription to the streamer. The Fifty Shades of Grey movies collectively earned over $1.3 billion at the global box office, but their earnings declined with each film after starting with $570 million and finishing with $372 million.

Although Hunnam ultimately didn’t end up starring in the Fifty Shades movies, he’s gone on to...

A Trio of Jason Statham Films Are Helping the Action Star Dominate the Streaming Charts
Image
If you're looking for a heart-pumping action film, there may be no better person for the job than Jason Statham — and now the actor's high-octane films are translating into significant streaming success. Three of Statham's recent films are currently sitting in the Top 10 most-streamed movies on Amazon Prime Video, according to FlixPatrol — including his most recent project, A Working Man, which was released just months ago.

A Working Man is sitting in the top spot for Amazon Prime on May 28. The David Ayer-directed film, which follows Statham as a British special soldier-turned construction worker who must track down a Russian mafia plot, leads all films on the platform. Wrath of Man, the 2021 Statham-starrer that reunited him with longtime collaborator Guy Ritchieand tells the tale of a driver who stops a robbery, is currently Number 7 on the Top 10 list.
