Modern Family drew fans into the Pritchett-Dunphy's family dynamic through its documentary style, but the show's original storyline almost ruined this. The series ran from 2009 through 2020 and featured an unknown documentary filmmaker following the not-so-traditional family. The Dunphy household looks pretty average on the outside, but when taken into their home, they present themselves much differently. Claire Dunphy (Julie Bowen) and her husband, Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell), desperately want to have a good relationship with their children, but this proves to be a complicated thing to achieve.

The dysfunctional family dynamic is what makes the show so enjoyable and adds to so many of its comedic moments. This is especially true when the extended family members of Jay Pritchett (Ed O'Neill), Gloria Pritchett (Sofia Vergara), Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) are added into the mix.
