When James Gunn cast Chris Pratt as Guardians of the Galaxy's Star-Lord, many fans wondered whether Marvel Studios had made a huge mistake. Still, the actor proved his doubters wrong and is now being eyed for a Dcu role.
The DC Studios co-ceo recently dismissed the notion of Pratt suiting up as Batman, but there are still plenty of DC Comics characters he could bring to life on screen.
In this feature, we've singled out five DC heroes—and villains—who would be a good fit for The Electric State and Jurassic World star. They're all very different from Peter Quill, and would arguably be well-suited to Pratt's skillset as an actor.

A spinoff of The Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)focused on Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn, also introducing the titular team to the Dceu, including Black Canary, Huntress, Renee Montoya, and Cassandra Cain. Set in Gotham City, the movie explored a new side to the city's occupants apart from Batman while featuring the Batman villain Black Mask, played by Ewan McGregor. It almost featured the Dceu introduction of the Penguin, but Matt Reeves' The Batmanprevented that.

Margot Robbie just revealed that her Birds of Prey movie was supposed to feature an iconic Batman villain until a certain creator took it away!
The new landscape of the DC Universe in the movies is a lot different from what it was supposed to be just five years ago. The collapse of the “Snyderverse” and the various other takes have been well documented and are not worth going into now. Still, many will agree that a highlight of it all was Margot Robbie’s performance as Harley Quinn.
The actress debuted as the Joker’s insane love interest in 2016’s Suicide Squad and was the best part of the film.

"Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn)," or simply "Birds of Prey" if you want to be boring, was a breath of fresh air when it dropped in 2020. The second women-led DC Extended Universe film after 2017's "Wonder Woman," "Birds of Prey" is a stylish, hilarious, and satisfying superhero movie that puts Margot Robbie's wonderfully chaotic Harley Quinn front and center in a reluctant team comprised of her, Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez).
This all-star group of Batman-adjacent characters needed a great villain to work, and it got one in Ewan McGregor's Roman "Black Mask" Sionis.

After making her debut in Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn took center stage in her own movie. Birds of Prey found Dr. Quinzel joining forces with The Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) to bring down Black Mask (Ewan McGregor). However, Robbie told Colin Farrell (via Entertainment Weekly) that The Penguin was supposed to be the main villain of Birds of Prey, until The Batman director Matt Reeves asked them not to.

The Arrowverse was a force to be reckoned with throughout its decade-long stint on TV screens. The DC TV shared universe of superheroes allowed the comic book genre to dominate the small screen in a way that it already was dominating the big screen, introducing audiences to a new wave of consistent superhero television that we hadn't seen since the '60s and the '70s.
It all started with Arrow, which premiered on The CW in 2012, and then it grew into a phenomenon shortly after that, adding shows such as The Flash, Supergirl, DC's Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Black Lightning and the Arrowverse-adjacent outings DC's Stargirl and Superman and Lois. Although it ended prematurely due to shifts behind-the-scenes at both The CW and Warner Bros., its legacy lives on in all of the actors who performed in the shows over the years and the fans who adored each and every one of them.

You won't find a comic book pairing more iconic than that of Superman and Lois Lane. You can look across all the realms and multiverses that DC Comics, Marvel Comics, and every other franchise has to offer, and you just won't find any. Oh sure, some have gotten close, but it's just impossible to match the absolute electricity that these two bring to the table.
The Man of Steel and the intrepid reporter have been one of DC's best double acts for close to a century. From the classic old days of Clark Kent and Lois Lane's sparring over the stories they both have to cover to their more modern, beloved workplace romance, fans have been falling head over heels for these two for decades. And it isn't hard to see why, for they have such a unique chemistry that makes them a formidable double act. Whether it's Clark's adorkable personality or Superman's confident heroism,...

With Superman soaring in the skies of the box office charts and critics’ outlets, James Gunn should take notes from Batman: The Brave and the Bold for his Caped Crusader in Dcu’s future. Since hope, empathy, and courage are the backbone of the franchise, this show ticks all the right boxes.
While the development of a Batman film is still ahead in the distant future, we can expect Gunn to take notice of the show and what it did right to deserve a 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The tones, themes, and messages the show managed to translate to the audience were nothing short of genius.
At the same time, many fans have also suggested Brandon Sklenar for the role of the titular protagonist, in which the star showed interest when he posted a fan art of himself on @brandonsklenar/Ig.

The latest revealed DC Studios television project is a "Booster Gold" TV show from David Jenkins (creator of "Our Flag Means Death"), which has been ordered to pilot at HBO Max (per Deadline). Booster Gold (created by Dan Jurgens in 1986), aka Jon Michael Carter, is a time-traveling superhero from the future. Though he hails from the 25th century, his story is familiar: he's a jock who peaked in high school (being caught gambling on your own games will do that to you). So, he travels back in time in hope of becoming a big fish in a smaller pond.
Though Booster is dense and a self-promoting gloryhound, he's not a bad guy. He's similar to James Gunn's take on Peter Quill/Star-Lord and so should fit naturally into Gunn's new DC Universe if his pilot moves forward. "Booster Gold...

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for DC vs. Vampires: World War V #11 (2025)!
Harley Quinn has one of the most versatile costume histories of any DC character. While some of her looks have been obvious hits and others complete misses, her latest design is guaranteed to divide fans. There will likely be no middle ground with this look, as fans will either love it or outright hate it.
Matthew Rosenberg and Otto Schmidt’s DC vs. Vampires: World War V #11 delivers several major bombshells, from Wonder Woman becoming Queen of the Vampires to Alfred Pennyworth killing his pseudo-grandson, Damian Wayne.
However, when it comes to visuals, Harley Quinn undeniably steals the show with a bold costume overhaul that may be one of her wackiest looks to date. It is undoubtedly odd, but some fans might agree that this look is so bad it is actually good.

With the release of James Gunn's Supermanofficially pushing his Dcu forward, some are looking back at those who last brought certain DC Comic characters to life. Gunn has previously confirmed that he is working on a Wonder Woman-related projects and that Matt Reeves' Batman is not a part of his universe, likely meaning he's looking for both someone to fill the shoes of Diana Prince and Bruce Wayne. That also leaves a wide berth for the rest of the Dcu, even after the healthy dose of new characters debuting in Superman. The 2020 film followed Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (after previously starring as her in Suicide Squad) and brought to life one of the lesser known DC Comic teams (as opposed to say The Justice League or Justice Society of America). James Gunn is reportedly already hard at work on the next film that will see Superman return to the Dcu. If the rumors are true, a World’s Finest film is in the works, which will feature Batman and Superman headline a project on the silver screen for the first time since Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The rumor comes courtesy of John Rocha and Jeff Sneider, who believe that James Gunn is currently working on a film featuring both Superman and Batman. While this might as well be a Justice League film or a cameo in a Teen Titans movie, the speculation has skewed towards a World’s Finest film, which may or may not be in development.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has reportedly outlined the core quartet of heroes that will serve as the foundational pillars of the burgeoning DC cinematic universe (Dcu): Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl. This strategic framework appears to guide the initial, Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters phase of the rebooted superhero franchise.
While Wonder Woman does not currently have a standalone film project on the immediate horizon, with the Amazon-centric series Paradise Lost understood to be set centuries before Diana's birth, DC Studios co-chair James Gunn has recently alluded to ongoing, unannounced developments for the iconic Amazonian warrior.
Superman is firmly established with his solo film slated for release later this summer. Batman is also set for a prominent presence, appearing alongside Robin in The Brave and the Bold, in addition to a shadowy cameo in the animated series Creature Commandos. Supergirl's introduction is also anticipated within this initial chapter.

The Dceu began with ambitious plans to match the success of the MCU, with Warner Bros. aiming to bring iconic DC characters to the big screen over a decade. Despite financial success, Snyder’s darker vision for the characters didn’t resonate with audiences, leading to the eventual reboot with James Gunn’s Dcu. While some Dceu films were well-received, others were considered significant flops.
Fans have compiled their picks for the 10 worst Dceu movies. Let’s dive into their selections.
10. ‘The Suicide Squad’ (2021)
After the mixed reception of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad (2016), expectations were high for James Gunn’s take on the franchise. However, some fans were disappointed as the film didn’t meet their expectations or align with their preferences. Gunn’s signature irreverent humor and over-the-top style, which were successful in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy, didn’t resonate with everyone, contributing to its place in the “top 10 worst” rankings.

Over a decade before the Arrowverse shows and their crossover events set the standard on The CW, its predecessor, The WB, was already experimenting with similar ideas involving multiple DC Comics superheroes teaming up to fight evil. On October 9, 2002, the network's "Birds of Prey" introduced a Batman-free version of Gotham City where crime runs rampant and familiar faces from the DC universe clash.
From a modern point of view, the show had a lot going for it. Its promo clips heavily suggested that its events existed in (a version of) the same continuity as the Tim Burton Batman movies -- not that this stopped the series from briefly introducing a distinctly new version of the Joker, as voiced by none other than Mark Hamill. When done correctly, musical films can transcend genres.
In 2022, director Todd Phillips announced a sequel to Joker (2019) was being made and was titled Joker: Folie á Deux. This announcement was shortly followed by the reveal that Folie á Deux would in fact be a musical, with Lady Gaga set to portray Harley Quinn. While fans went gaga over the casting, the musical aspect was baffling to many. After all, why would the sequel to a non-musical comic book film, all of a sudden become a musical?
In 2024, that question was answered with an extremely polarizing because Joker: Folie á Deux was an incredibly lackluster follow up to the 2019 film, but was this due to the musical element? "Smallville" ran for 10 seasons, but its impact can't be measured only by how long it stayed on the air. The CW's Arrowverse doesn't exist without "Smallville." Now, "Arrow" did not share a continuity with "Smallville" and it recast its Oliver Queen. But still, even without "Arrow" being a proper "Smallville" spin-off, The CW greenlighting a Green Arrow show clearly happened because "Smallville" had introduced the character to their audience.
But there could've been a Green Arrow-led TV series much sooner, one starring Justin Hartley. During "Smallville" season 6, writer Steven DeKnight was working on a Justice League spin-off.
Beginning in season 4 of "Smallville," Clark Kent (Tom Welling) slowly begins meeting other DC superheroes. In "Run," it's Bart Allen/Impulse (Kyle Gallner). Season 5 had Arthur Curry/Aquaman (Alan Ritchson) in "Aqua" and then Victor Stone/Cyborg (Lee Thompson Young) in, well, "Cyborg." Then season 6 brought in Green Arrow (Hartley) as a recurring character.

For an animated show that represents one of the most uncompromising artistic visions ever produced for children's TV, "Batman: The Animated Series" sure had to jump through a lot of hoops for its network. Fox censorship meant there were nine things "Batman: The Animated Series" couldn't do, though the writers frequently found ways of circumventing the network's dictates, such as when "The New Batman Adventures" (as the show was later renamed) used Scarecrow to pull one over on the censors.
It's a testament to the talent of the writers, artists, and voice actors that they were able to make such a seminal piece of work in "B:tas" despite being somewhat hindered in their mission to tell more mature stories. Often, however, the writers were extremely hampered in their efforts to craft particular storylines. After all, it wasn't just the censors...

Losing a dream role can still sting many years later, which appears to be the case for Katie Cassidy. The actress portrayed the fan-favorite role of Laurel Lance/Black Canary on The CW's Arrow for four seasons before she was killed off in 2016. The news of Cassidy being told about her demise wasn't exactly handled the best way, and now the actress is revealing why she believes her time on the series came to an end.
During an appearance on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Cassidy went into detail about her Arrow character being killed off and how she found out about it. News of a character's death was teased at the start of the season, but Cassidy didn't think it would be her. Katie Cassidy faced a tough moment in her career when she learned her character, Laurel Lance, also known as Black Canary, would be killed off on the CW show Arrow. She had been part of the series from the start, appearing in its first four seasons. The news came in 2016, catching her off guard just days before the episode was set to film.
She shared her feelings on Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast, Inside of You, saying, “I had to eat some humble pie when they killed me off that show. It was really hard.” Cassidy felt a mix of emotions—sadness, shock, and even anger.
She remembered being on a call with producers Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg, who told her, “Listen, unfortunately I have to tell you you’re the one that’s in the grave.” That moment hit her hard, especially since she loved playing Laurel...

While Arrow may have ended nearly half a decade ago, one of the most discussed aspects of The CW drama to this point is the unexpected death of the Black Canary during season 4, as Cassidy's character was murdered by Damien Darhk. With her role as Laurel Lance, also known as Black Canary, Katie Cassidy played one of the biggest roles on the hit Arrowverse series Arrow. At one point, however, she was killed off, a decision that gave her a flurry of emotions at the time.
Cassidy discussed her time on Arrow during a recent interview for the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, per Deadline. She recalled how she learned of Black Canary's death in 2016 after she served as a big part of Arrow for the first four seasons. Famously, the season started with the reveal that a character's death would happen, though it wasn't until later that it was revealed to be Laurel. Despite that big tease, Cassidy was still quite shocked when she realized she was the one on the chopping block.

Zack Snyder has had a fun run pushing the boundaries of CGI with most of his projects. His vision for films like The Watchmen, 300, Rebel Moon, and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, all relied on heavy CGI mixed with some brilliant acting and direction on the part of Snyder himself.

However, in an interview during the promotion of the Rebel Moon‘s Director’s Cut, Zack Snyder revealed that perhaps he would like to take a back seat from special effects and focus on a film that employs a few more organic shots. If the director’s history with the superhero genre is anything to look at, there is one character that Snyder needs to try his hands on.

Shortly after Smallville concluded on The CW, the network launched its next superhero TV series in 2012 with Arrow. Stephen Amell was cast as Green Arrow and, as the years passed, his show spawned several spin-offs and a shared DC Universe later dubbed the "Arrowverse."
The show's achievements are undeniable but it had a lot of "CW-isms." Among them was giving Green Arrow a geeky female sidekick in Emily Bett Rickards' Felicity Smoak, the spiritual successor to Smallville's Chloe Sullivan.
Felicity was soon established as Oliver Queen's true love, a decision that upset those eager to see his romance with Black Canary fully explored.
Doing the rounds to promote her new movie, Queen of the Ring, Rickards - who plays wrestling legend Mildred Burke in the biopic - reflected on needing a thick skin in response to the criticisms.

When it debuted in 2008, "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" reintroduced a more lighthearted tone to the Dark Knight's animated escapades. Ever since "Batman: The Animated Series" attained legendary status with its mature storylines and alluringly dark aesthetic, Batman cartoons had tried somewhat to emulate that approach. But "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" diverged, using a more comedic tone to appeal to younger audiences and discarding the brooding, noirish elements that had made "B:tas" such a hit.
Based on "The Brave and the Bold" comic series which ran from 1955 to 1983, the show saw Batman teaming up with various and mostly lesser-known DC heroes, with each episode telling a standalone story involving the Dark Knight and his chosen teammate of the week. Zanier characters such as Detective Chimp would show up in this more outlandish show, which also featured more obscure villains including Starro, the main villain in James Gunn's "The Suicide Squad.

No one is ever truly gone in the world of comic books. Through various supernatural ways that be can used in specific lores to revive dearly departed characters to the endless possibilities of the multiverse that can bring in alternate versions of those characters from another world, the comic book medium has defied the natural order of things time and time again.

Though some of you may not even be aware of this, Warner Bros. aired a Birds of Prey TV series back in 2002, which ran for 13 episodes before being abruptly cancelled despite relatively strong ratings.
The show was set in an alternate DC Comics reality, taking place years after Batman abandoned Gotham City (now known as New Gotham) and focusing on a trio of heroes joining forces as the city's new protectors in the Dark Knight's absence.

When Zack Snyder made Man of Steel with Henry Cavill, there were no plans of building a Dceu. However, DC executives were eager to catch up with Marvel, who were thriving with their superhero franchise. In their misguided vision for a DC franchise, the studio tried many things unsuccessfully before opting for a complete restructuring under James Gunn.

Starfire is one of DC’s most iconic and beloved heroines, but beyond her role as a powerhouse member of the Teen Titans, she’s often relegated to being just a love interest. While I’m not entirely opposed to a well-done romance arc for the Tamaranean Princess, I’d much rather see her star in an A-tier solo series that explores themes beyond love first.
While this may be a divisive opinion, I believe Tom Taylor would be a fantastic choice to helm a Starfire solo series.
There’s no denying that Starfire is one of DC’s most badass female characters and a favorite among fans. Yet, it’s surprising that the comic publisher hasn’t put more effort into developing her character beyond being a member of the Titans or a love interest for characters like Nightwing and Arsenal.

However, like how Gunn took the disastrous Suicide Squad and gave it a good direction with The Suicide Squad, there are a few more films from the Dceu that deserved better. Here are four films that need a second chance in the Dcu.
1. The Flash Ezra Miller in The Flash | Credits: Warner Bros.
This one had every obstacle thrown at it and while it is admirable that The Flash finally did release, the underwhelming quality of the film ultimately...

One of the more interesting hero love lives belongs to Green Arrow. Oliver Queen is best known for dating and eventually marrying Black Canary Dinah Lance, but it cannot be overlooked that the billionaire has always had a complicated playboy lifestyle. These two have been together for so long that it may feel like they were always together, but that's far from the case.
There were times when Oliver found himself either pining for someone else when he wasn't with Black Canary. Honestly, there were times when he found himself lusting over other suitors even while he was with Dinah. Sometimes, the two would have a rocky relationship and sometimes, Ollie was the farthest from a faithful man. Green Arrow's faithfulness and his battles with fidelity were once a constant character flaw for him, but it also gave birth to numerous fascinating love interests who weren't Black Canary.

Warning: Spoilers for Birds of Prey #17
Superman is typically hailed as the Justice League's most durable hero due to his Kryptonian constitution, but he isn't the only one on the team whose body can withstand attacks. An overlooked Justice League icon has revealed the full extent of her own durability with a surprising power feat. Superman's Kryptonian invulnerability might just pale in comparison to the invulnerability of the Justice League's resident New God.
Birds of Prey #17 by Kelly Thompson, Sam Basri, Vicente Ficuentes, Adriano Lucas, and Clayton Cowles opens with the titular team attacking the Ninth Day cult to save Batgirl, who has been turned into a hulking brute. Big Barda attempts to talk sense into Batgirl, only for her former ally to inject her with the super-soldier serum that transformed her.
Big Barda appears to be compromised, but in a shocking turn, she isn't affected by Batgirl's needle injection.
