He is a big fan of Spandau Ballet. When he interviewed Tony Hadley while covering for Matthew Wright on Episode dated 18 April 2007 (2007), he implored Hadley to get the band back together. By way of encouragement, he pointed out to Hadley that Genesis were reforming "and nobody even remembers any of their songs", while everyone remembers Spandau's 1983 hit "Gold". Many years later, Allwright made a cameo in the Spandau spoof documentary The Kemps: All Gold (2023).
