Remake of Zwart Water lands Charlize Theron Scott Derrickson, known for The Exorcism of Emily Rose, is set to helm the English-language reboot of Dutch thriller Zwart Water, which has Theron also on board as producer. The South African-born actress picked up rights to the remake last year via her Denver and Delilah Films company. Derrickson writes alongside his Emily Rose collaborator Paul Boardman. The original film helmed by Elbert van Strein, who wrote alongside Paulo van Vliet, told of a nine-year-old called Lisa who discovers her sinister new friend is the ghost of the dead twin of Lisa’s mother. Lisa’s father too starts to suspect his wife of hiding a terrible secret, which results in deadly consequences.

You have to go all the way back to 1997's The Devil's Advocate to find a horror movie on Charlize Theron's CV (unless you count Reindeer Games). Given the mill she's put through on that film, it's not that surprising that she shied away from the genre subsequently, but that should be about to change, with the news that Theron has personally picked up the rights to Two Eyes Staring.The original Dutch film, titled Zwart Water at home, was directed by Elbert van Strien, and written by van Strien and Paulo van Vliet. Oscar winner Charlize Theron has picked up the remake rights to Elbert van Strien's Dutch supernatural thriller "Two Eyes Staring" (aka. "Zwart Water") says The Hollywood Reporter.

The story follows a nine-year-old girl who discovers her sinister friend is the ghost of her mother's dead twin. van Strien and Paulo van Vliet penned the script.

Theron will produce through her Denver & Delilah production banner and several "A-list directors" are currently in talks about helming the feature.

London -- Oscar winner Charlize Theron has proffered a Dutch wink to remake rights to writer/director Elbert van Strien's "Two Eyes Staring," a movie originally named "Zwart Water" in the Netherlands.

Theron snapped up remake rights through her production banner Denver & Delilah and is, according to Dutch sources, meeting "A-list directors" to attach to the remake.

The original Dutch pic, fresh from a circuit of international festival airings including screenings at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, Fantasy Filmfest in Germany and the Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, starred British born Barry Atsma alongside Hadewych Minis, Isabelle Stokkel and Bart Slegers.

Written by van Strien and Paulo van Vliet, "Two Eyes Staring" details the story of a nine-year-old girl who discovers her sinister friend is the ghost of her mother's dead twin.

Zwart Water or Two Eyes Staring is a film from Accento Films, which is from the Netherlands. In this first trailer for Zwart, Lisa, a nine year old girl, discovers a secret long buried by her mother. Seems the family was a little bigger at one point. Two Eyes Staring has already won the Kodak Development Prize in 2006 and this first clip will surely make you squirm as the dead come to life for a reunion.
