Exclusive: Dakota Fanning (Ripley), Jake Johnson (Minx) and Cory Michael Smith (Mountainhead) have signed on to star in an untitled romantic drama written and directed by Joe Swanberg.

We’re told the film is set in various locations throughout Alaska, but plot details are under wraps. Fanning, Johnson and Smith also will produce alongside Swanberg and Ashleigh Snead, with Dan Johnson, Kathy Gitibin Parsa and Ariana Parsa serving as executive producers.

The project marks Swanberg’s fourth collaboration with Johnson, following Drinking Buddies, Digging for Fire and Win It All.

Things got started with Godzilla in 2014, and since then the universe has expanded with Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Godzilla vs. Kong, the animated series Skull Island, the live-action series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. A third Godzilla / Kong mash-up is now on the way – and a couple of months ago, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. officially announced that filming is underway, unveiling an ominous teaser, revealing that the film is aiming for a March 26, 2027 theatrical release, and giving it a title – Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

Production company Lyrical Media is launching Lyrical Games a new, privately funded game publisher with its first three titles in production.

Blake Rochkind, former Head of Business Development at Take-Two’s Private Division, will oversee Lyrical Games, which says it aims to support imaginative and high-caliber games that live between the extremes of smaller indies and large productions. Rochkind was previously a Video Game Agent at United Talent Agency.

According to Variety, Adria Arjona has joined The Thomas Crown Affair, stepping into the co-lead role of the insurance investigator who pursues Jordan's titular billionaire art thief. Russell had been cast in the role since March 2025, but departed late last week over "creative differences." With production having already commenced, Amazon and the movie's producers, which count Jordan and Charles Roven, worked quickly to cast her replacement, with Arjona emerging victorious. She now joins an ensemble that includes Kenneth Branagh, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, Pilou Asbæk, and Aiysha Hart.

One of the most underrated horror sequels of the last decade finds its way onto free streaming this July. Adam Wingard's Blair Witch, the 2016 follow-up to the 1999 found footage phenomenon The Blair Witch Project, is set to be in Tubi's extensive library starting July 1. The film is also presented in found footage format, as a pseudo-documentary showing the ill-fated journey of a doomed group of friends.

Heather Donahue was reported missing years ago after she set out to make a documentary about a local urban legend. Her brother found a YouTube video that has an image of what appears to be his sister. Or so he believes. He convinces his friends to join him, and among them there's a filmmaker who will document the events.

The obsession with re-imagining anime/manga as American live-action adaptations has proven to be problematic. While there isn't anything inherently wrong with reframing these stories as live-action projects, most English-language adaptations tend to completely change the localized context or misunderstand the source material. Perhaps the most egregious example of this is Adam Wingard's "Death Note" adaptation for Netflix, which takes the premise of a beloved gateway anime and warps it beyond recognition. In Tsugumi Ohba's "Death Note" manga, everything that happens is rooted in hyper-specific Japanese legends and mythology, where words like "shinigami" (Japanese spirits of death) and "Kira" (a transliteration of the word "killer") are integral to the premise. Once this cultural context is removed, "Death Note" falls apart, as we are only left with disconnected concepts that can never form a coherent whole.

Warner Bros. and Legendary announced Friday that Godzilla x Kong: Supernova is the new title for the forthcoming movie that is set for theatrical release March 26, 2027. The next MonsterVerse movie has a title. Warner Bros. has officially unveiled the subtitle for its next Godzilla x Kong, which seems to hint at what awaits the fan-favorite Titans in their next big-screen adventure.

The studio has shared an ominous first teaser for Godzilla x Kong, showing a Monarch call center office. The camera pans to one of the desks as the following warning flashes on the computer screen: "[Emergency Alert] – Severe. To Report a Titan Sighting, Call (240) Monarch." If fans respond to Monarch's call to action and dial the number, they will be treated to a recorded message from someone who works for the Monarch Community Support Hotline, asking them to "Press 1 to receive messages from the Monsterverse." The rest of the teaser is dedicated to revealing the official logo for the new movie, with the official title unveiled as Godzilla x Kong: Supernova. Check out the teaser video below.

Zero Protocol is directed by Debs Paterson and written by Dan Hall (The Silent Hour).

Exclusive: Neon is gearing up to begin production in May on Bad Lieutenant: Tokyo, with Takashi Miike set to direct. The thriller will star Shun Oguri, Lily James, and WWE star Liv Morgan (Gionna Daddio).

The film will be a U.S.-Japan co-production, produced by Jeremy Thomas for Recorded Picture Company, Sam Pressman for Pressman Film, Naoaki Kitajima for Nippon TV and Misako Saka for Olm. Executive producers include Tom Quinn, Yuzo Kuwahara, Tetsu Fujimura, Paula Paizes, Alainée Kent, Peter Watson, Ivan Kelava, Max Loeb and Mike Apgar. The deal was negotiated by Neon’s Sarah Colvin, VP of Acquisitions, and Paula Paizes from Pressman Film and Recorded Picture Company’s Ivan Kelava on behalf of the filmmakers.

Neon will release the film theatrically in North America and represent the international sales rights in Cannes this month.

Lyrical Media and Ryder Picture Company will adapt Sian Gilbert’s debut thriller “She Started It” for the screen. Jessica Sharzer, the screenwriter behind “A Simple Favor,” is set to direct from the script she co-wrote with Sarah Masson. Ryder Picture Company’s Aaron Ryder and Andrew Swett are producing with Lyrical Media’s Alexander Black. Lyrical is financing the development with Jon Rosenberg and Natalie Sellers executive producing. Casting is currently underway.

This marks the fourth MonsterVerse film to shoot in Queensland, following Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla vs. Kong, and The New Empire. Legendary Pictures has once again set up shop at Village Roadshow Studios, where production will inject an estimated Aud$93 million into the local economy and employ over 400 cast and crew.

But we're not here for the Australian economy, we're here for the Titan-sized turmoil on display, with yet another apocalyptic threat that forces Godzilla and Kong to once again team up — hopefully with more tag-team takedowns and less dental trauma. When it comes to meta experiments that blur those good ole lines between fiction and the filmmakers’ own non-fiction life stories, there’s a risk that the resulting feature can border on being impenetrable if audiences aren’t fed a load of exposition in advance. That’s far less of an issue for classically-told narratives from mega-famous artists delving into (semi)autobiography (like Steven Spielberg with “The Fabelmans”), but definitely so for smaller scale projects from independent filmmakers whose output is more peculiar. What can be a compelling behind-the-scenes story as described in a press kit may not necessarily translate into the finished feature as something engaging, or even coherent, to anyone coming to the work without the luxury of reading production notes before the screening.

Multiple sources are reporting that Sam Neill (Jurassic Park; Thor: Ragnarok; Peaky Blinders) has joined the cast of Legendary's next MonsterVerse installment, the tentatively titled Godzilla x Kong 3.

Plot details are being kept strictly under wraps for now, but the studio has teased that the new film, which is being helmed by Grant Sputore, will follow “several new human characters alongside the beloved and iconic Titans Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat.”
