Christopher "Peacemaker" Smith (John Cena) may have helped foil an alien invasion, but he's still the butt of jokes in the superhero community. In the "Peacemaker" season 2 premiere, Peacemaker interviews to join the "Justice Gang." However, neither Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), nor the team's moneyman, Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn), are impressed by him.

The interviews take place in an abandoned storefront labeled "Krank's Toys." That's not a real brand, but it does have some DC Universe history behind it. The cartoon series "The Batman," which premiered in 2004, featured the villain Cosmo Krank/The Toymaker (Patton Oswalt), the former owner of Krank's Toys turned super-villain.

Like any James Gunn superhero project, "Peacemaker" season 2 is filled to the brim with fun little allusions and Easter eggs. Gunn, being a guy who has no problem putting ultra-obscure DC characters like Weasel (Sean Gunn), Ratcatcher II (Daniela Melchior) — or, for that matter, Peacemaker (John Cena) — front and center, some of the figures who exist on the periphery of his stories can be outright peculiar. One such character is a supervillain who's actually quite mighty, but incredibly easy to miss.

Near the end of "Peacemaker" season 2, episode 1 — titled "The Ties That Grind" — Peacemaker, aka Christopher Smith, finally decides to venture deeper into the parallel universe he accidentally discovered some time ago.

Gunn took part in a recent interview to chat about Peacemaker Season 2, and he was asked if Chris Pratt has a place in the Dcu, specifically as Batman. Gunn ruled out Pratt ever playing The Dark Knight, simply by saying, “As Batman? No.” However, he did confirm that there’s a place for him in another role: “As something else? Yes.” The duo previously teamed up for all three Guardians of the Galaxy movies, where Pratt plays the legendary Star Lord.

Freddie Stroma, who plays Vigilante/Adrian Chase, admitted he’s nervous about young Superman fans being introduced to the mature superhero series now that’s part of James Gunn‘s new Dcu.

“It’s weird because it’s a new universe, but it doesn’t really affect us as much,” he told Discussing Film. “I keep thinking about the fact that Superman has come out, and then, if younger viewers are going to come in and see that first episode, I don’t know what they’re going to think.”

Stroma continued, “So, I keep thinking about that with the universe change. I guess that’s just part of it. For us, it’s kind of business as usual. We’re the Peacemaker lot and we do pretty R-rated stuff.

While Peacemaker may have existed in the comics from the 1960s but James Gunn claims that his version is a spiritual sequel to the lowest-rated film of his career, Super. Starring Rainn Wilson in a dark-comical role, Super was written and directed by Gunn in his pre-Marvel and DC days.

Guardians of the Galaxy star Sean Gunn has been cast as the Dcu's Maxwell Lord, and showed up in Superman for a cameo role (he'll next appear briefly in Peacemaker season 2). Crucially for this shared world, Lord is funding his own superhero team, dubbed the "Justice Gang."

That makes the character incredibly important to the Dcu's future, and Gunn says he's excited to follow Lord throughout the vastly different genres and corners of the DC Universe this relaunched franchise will explore in the coming years. Peacemaker showrunner and DC Studios boss James Gunn thinks the last few episodes of Peacemaker season 2 are going to set the internet on fire.

Speaking to Brandon Davis of PhaseHero, Gunn shared that he won't even let his publicist see the last three installments.

"There's a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes. And even though I've only sent the first five to a select few, things still get out. Things got out already, [if] people want to search, they can be spoiled on purpose. But I really don't want what's in those last three episodes to be spoiled and so I'm keeping them close to the chest. I won't even let my publicist know, that's the God's honest truth."

Faster than a speeding bullet, Superman‘s North American digital release is set for Friday, Aug. 15, ahead of Peacemaker‘s Friday, Aug. 22 return to HBO Max. The DC Studios movie then becomes available Sept. 23 on 4K Uhd, Blu-ray and DVD.

James Gunn has big plans for one of the DC Universe's upcoming shows, saying that fans will be "whacked out" at the new developments when new episodes of Creature Commandos drop.

In an interview with Straw Hat Goofy shared on Instagram, Gunn revealed that there will be some pretty big changes coming to Creature Commandos Season 2. "I just met with Dean [Lorey] on Creature Commandos, Season 2," Gunn shared. "Real big priority for us. People are gonna be whacked out by all of the superheroes we're adding." Gunn also took the time to tease some of the Dcu's other big upcoming projects, including Supergirl starring Milly Alcock and the HBO series Lanterns, which recently got its own big casting update.

Peacemaker season 2 will see John Cena’s antihero tackle a whole bunch of villains, both old and new. Written and developed by James Gunn, who is the co-chief of DC Studios and directed Superman recently, Peacemaker season 2 will directly relate to the events of Superman and will see Peacemaker go on another mission with the 11th Street Kids.
