The fabulous Bagri Foundation London Indian Film Festival in London and Birmingham, is UK and Europe’s largest platform of independent cinema from the Indian subcontinent. The brilliant London festival has closed but the amazing movies continue in Birmingham until July 2nd.

The festival has grown significantly in stature and reputation, with pan-Indian and Indian sub continental cinema in several languages, all subtitled in English, Bsl (British Sign Language) incorporated in some talks, and this year attracted major award winning films including Newton, Hotel Salvation and The Cinema Travellers, as well as world premieres like the Tamil comedy, Ticket – The Movie.

Festival executive and programming director Cary Rajinder Sawhney said: “It is wonderful that the festival continues to lead the debate and not simply reflect the changing shape of Indian cinema; from this year’s Indian virtual reality showcases to bringing carefully curated important new talent to the world stage...

After the trailer of the Vir Das-Boman Irani starrer film Santa Banta Pvt Ltd. , went viral, Charan Singh Sapra (Congress Mlc from Mulund) and his supporters felt that the dialogues were indecent and filthy and the script of the film was offensive and that it showed the Sikh community in very poor light. His lawyer B.A. Desai also showed the film's posters to the bench allegedly claiming indecency by the film's actors. He also urged the Censor Board to withdraw its certificate issued to the producers to screen the film. Besides stating that the film's dialogues went against the Constitution's spirit, he also added that the jokes on 'sardarji' were intended to defame them (the community). He also stated that the film's release would lead to public disorder and also could possibly also lead to a law and order situation. Lastly, he requested for an interim relief to stall the film's release.

Abhay Deol is said to be a quite popular with the ladies and was recently said to be dating Preeti Desai, Miss Great Britain 2006. The duo were introduced to one another at the success party of Dev and while the model had recently moved to Mumbai to pursue her modeling career, Abhay took off to New York as he took some time off as a sabbatical.

According to sources, their split was expected. "Abhay enjoys life. His parting with Preeti is not shocking. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
