“The Real World Homecoming” has been renewed for Seasons 2 and 3 at Paramount Plus.

Season 1 of the series reunited cast members from the groundbreaking reality show’s New York season. Season 2 will bring back cast members from “The Real World: Los Angeles,” while the focus of the third season will be announced at a later date.

The first season of “Homecoming” debuted on Paramount Plus back in March and ran through April, consisting of six episodes. The original New York cast moved back into the same loft the occupied in the 1992 season. Norman Korpi, Julie Gentry, Becky Blasband, Kevin Powell, Andre Comeau, Heather Gardner, and Eric Nies all participated. Nies was forced to appear virtually after testing positive for Covid-19.

Sitarah Pendelton-Eaglin, Candida Boyette-Clemons and Nadim Amiry are executive producers on the series for MTV Entertainment Studios. Jonathan Murray, Julie Pizzi, Erica Ross, Kevin Lee and James Knox are executive producers for Bunim/Murray Productions.

The first half of the premiere episode of Paramount+’s highly anticipated “The Real World” reunion was dedicated to the original cast members reuniting for the first time in nearly 30 years, a largely cheerful segment punctuated by the refrain, “Where’s Eric?”

Turns out that Eric Nies, one of the first season’s biggest stars, wasn’t able to move into the New York City loft with the other cast members because he tested positive for Covid-19. Instead, Nies had to isolate in a separate New York hotel and call in via video chat.

“When Eric popped on the monitor, I knew,” his castmate Andre Comeau said in the episode. “These are the times of Covid, so yeah, I added two plus two pretty quickly.”

Fans likely had the same reaction after the news that Eric wasn’t able to participate in the reunion in person was first reported by the New York Times.

Seven years ago, Rolling Stone interviewed Real World co-creator Jonathan Murray about the newest season of the groundbreaking MTV reality show. At the end, we ran an idea past him: “[Thinking] back to that original cast in New York, it would be nice to see something with them again. Maybe put them all back into a loft for a week.”

He was a little skeptical. “I don’t know doing it that way is best, and I’m not sure they’d be willing to do it,” he said at the time.

Paramount+’s upcoming “Real World” reunion series will bring the entire original cast to the same New York City loft they shared in 1992 — with one major exception.

Eric Nies, one of the MTV reality show’s seven original stars, was forced to stay in a hotel room apart from the other housemates and video call in for the duration of filming, he told the The New York Times. Nies said he couldn’t explain why he wasn’t able to live with the rest of the cast, saying only that it was “definitely not by my choice.”

The six other original cast members — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi and Kevin Powell — were all reunited in person at the SoHo loft where their original season was set.

Nearly three decades after they stopped being polite, MTV’s original seven strangers will start getting real (again) with a multi-episode docuseries on Paramount+.

The streamer on Friday released the official trailer for The Real World Homecoming: New York, which summons the stars of the 1992 series — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell — back to the Big Apple to once again live together and have their lives taped. The show will be available to stream on Thursday, March 4.

MTV is reuniting the original cast of “The Real World: New York” for a revival series on the streaming service Paramount+, the company announced Friday.

Titled “The Real World Homecoming: New York,” the series will bring the original seven strangers — Becky Blasband, Andre Comeau, Heather B. Gardner, Julie Gentry, Norman Korpi, Eric Nies and Kevin Powell — back to the New York City loft they shared back in 1992. MTV has recently started teasing the reunion with clips from the original show on its social media pages.

“Homecoming” is the start of a broader revival of the iconic reality TV franchise planned for the soon-to-be-rebranded streaming service. It will mark the show’s first return since 2019’s “Real World: Atlanta,” which was produced by MTV’s studio arm and aired on Facebook Watch.

The cast will revisit memorable moments from the groundbreaking reality series’ first season and discuss how the show transformed their lives.
