Image
Directed by Deadpool & Wolverine's Shawn Levy, the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter currently finds Ryan Gosling in the lead, with Pearl star Mia Goth also on board. Now, the Star Warsspin-off has found the perfect actor, a sci-fi icon and Marvel star, to play the movie's villain.

Somehow, Palpatine returned, or at least Matt Smith is returning to Star Wars after having almost appeared in The Rise of Skywalker. Smith is best known for playing the Eleventh Doctor on the hit sci-fi series Doctor Who from 2010 to 2013. Smith currently stars as Daemon Targaryen in House of the Dragon and will next be seen in Darren Aronofsky's Caught Stealing.

Deadline reports that Matt Smith has signed on to play the villain in Star Wars: Starfighter. No details have been given about Smith's role or the plot of Star Wars: Starfighter, but the film is set for release on May 28, 2027, in time for Star Wars' 50th anniversary.

Steve Martin

Steve Martin’s family comedies Cheaper by the Dozen (2003) and Cheaper by the Dozen 2 (2005) remain beloved favorites for audiences more than 20 years later. Blending Martin’s sharp comedic timing with heartfelt family storytelling, these films captured the chaos and joy of raising a large family, making them classics for a new generation of viewers.

Steve Martin’s Experience with Ensemble Casts

For Martin, working on films filled with kids wasn’t exactly uncharted territory. Long before he took on the role of Tom Baker in Cheaper by the Dozen, he led the ensemble cast of Parenthood (1989) and starred in the two beloved Father of the Bride...

Mark Gatiss Has A Message For 'Grumpy Old Doctor Who Fans'
Image
Mark Gatiss has been prominently connected to Doctor Who since the 2005 revival. He's written four episodes and played four different roles, though now he's unsure about the show's future.

In a new interview withRadio Times, Gatiss decried "nostalgia" and its relation to Doctor Who. One of the prevailing complaints about the recent era of Doctor Who was that it relied too much on nostalgia, bringing back classic characters the Rani and Omega and then 2005-era actress Billie Piper in quick succession. Gatiss didn't address this criticism directly, but he had a lot to say.

"The actual process of trying to make it a modern show for a new audience is not about nostalgia, and I think that's the great difference," he said. "You have to go, ‘Right, why is this going to work now? It doesn't really matter what worked for Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, it’s about now.

Why Ncuti Gatwa Left Doctor Who After Two Seasons
Image
"Doctor Who" has famously set up a perfect system to keep going as long as the ratings allow. Thanks to the regeneration ability of the Doctor, the series can simply kill and resurrect the main character whenever the actor departs the role for one reason or another. This has turned out to be an excellent, periodic way to shake up the status quo, as new actors (and showrunners) bring their own spin on the long-living role while keeping the show's most familiar traits intact.

Sometimes, an actor occupies the role for quite a long time. For instance, Tom Baker, who played the Fourth Doctor from 1974 to 1984, appeared in no less than 178 episodes, and three other classic "Doctor Who" era actors also have three-digit episode counts under their belt. Other times, a Doctor's tenure is so short that it seems the fans barely got to know this version of the character.

Doctor Who Is Doomed: Over‑Reliance on David Tennant Is Killing the Show
Image
Doctor Who and its fans’ obsession with David Tennant might as well be the death of the show. Since Tennant played the Tenth Doctor in the BBC revival of the series, every other actor has been compared to the star, who is a fan favorite. The actor has returned as the Fourteenth Doctor and has been associated with the franchise in various ways.

A recent podcast associated all Doctors in the ‘New Who’ era with David Tennant or the other, proving how obsessed the fanbase is with the actor’s iteration (via Come Along Pond Podcast).

Here’s who the New Who Doctors are: the guy who regenerated into David Tennant; David Tennant; the guy who regenerated out of David Tennant; and then the guy who featured in a David Tennant episode; the woman who regenerates into David Tennant; the guy who regenerated out of David Tennant, and he’s...

In The Grip Of Terror Q&a: Talking Anthology Horror and the Return of Amicus with Megan Tremethick
Image
Following its very successful crowdfunding campaign, Amicus Productions was resurrected, with plans to develop a brand-new horror anthology film, the first from Amicus since 1974's Beyond the Grave. In the tradition of films like Tales From the Crypt and Asylum, In the Grip of Terror has been completed, and having seen it for myself, fans of anthology horror will be very pleased by these new tales of terror. For our latest Q&a, I caught up with Megan Tremethick, who talks about her love of the original Amicus films, In the Grip of Terror's on-set experience, and much more:

What was your first exposure to Amicus horror anthology films, and why do you think they've remained so popular decades after release?

Megan Tremethick: My first experience with Amicus came when I was quite young. My dad showed me Vault of Horror, and I was immediately drawn in by the stories,...

Every ‘Doctor Who’ Actor Who Publicly Criticized the Show — and Why
Image
Doctor Who is one of the most popular franchises in the sci-fi genre, but it, too, is not shielded from criticism. The series has often been the center of controversy, be it for the general direction of the franchise or its messaging. From the First Doctor back in the ‘60s, Doctor Who has fielded questions on how it is branded as a children’s show.

However, criticism from fans and the general audience is one thing. But when it comes from the actors themselves, it becomes all the more scandalous. Many stars from the franchise have expressed their love for the show, with stars like David Tennant and Matt Smith defending it through all its iterations.

However, some actors have called out the way the show functions behind the scenes as well as its creative direction in the past. Here are the actors who have publicly criticized Doctor Who.

New ‘Doctor Who’ Episodes Called Out for Disjointed Plot By Former Doctor: “Like Watching a Trailer”
Image
Doctor Who has been a beloved sci-fi show since 1963, with many actors taking on the iconic role of the Doctor over the years. From Tom Baker to Jodie Whittaker, and most recently Ncuti Gatwa, the show has always changed and evolved. But now, some serious questions are being raised about where the series is headed.

Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor in the early 1980s, recently spoke out about his disappointment with the current direction of Doctor Who.

In an interview on The Lewis Nicholls Show, Davison said watching the latest episodes feels like watching random clips rather than a complete story.

“It’s like watching a trailer for a Doctor Who show you’d like to watch later. There are huge gaps in the narrative. They’re just leaping onto the next bit and hoping your brain fills in the rest.”

New ‘Doctor Who’ Seasons Slammed for Weak Storytelling by Former Doctor: “Like Watching a Trailer”

Doctor Who has been around since 1963, with different actors stepping into the lead role over the years. From Tom Baker to Jodie Whittaker, and most recently Ncuti Gatwa, the sci-fi series has always evolved. But right now, things aren’t looking so great, and one former star is speaking out.

Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor back in the early 1980s, isn’t happy with where the show is heading. In a recent chat on The Lewis Nicholls Show, he said watching Doctor Who these days feels like watching a bunch of disconnected scenes rather than a full story.

“It’s like watching a trailer for a Doctor Who show you’d like to watch later. There are huge gaps in the narrative. They’re just leaping onto the next bit and hoping your brain fills in the rest.”

‘Doctor Who’ Showrunner Casts More Doubt on Season 3 With Disappointing Update
Image
Will Doctor Who return after the shocking cliffhanger conclusion of this season? That's the question on every Whovian's lips, and now showrunner Russell T. Davies, who resurrected the show after a sixteen-year hiatus in the 2000s, has stated that "we don't know what's happening yet." Davies made the statement in a production diary in Doctor Who Magazine, as reported by Deadline. The uncertainty comes with the end of the show's production deal with Disney+ and declining ratings for the recent seasons of the series.

In a production diary for the season finale published in Doctor Who Magazine, Davies wrote, "We don’t know what’s happening yet, and while everyone works that out, I’ll take a pause on this page … Hopefully, we’ll have news soon." A BBC source clarified, "This letter is a production notes diary for when the show is in production, or on air, and as...

Doctor Who Star Ncuti Gatwa Bids Farewell To The Series In Touching Video: "It Was Beautiful To Do"
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for the Doctor Who season 15 finale!Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa shares an emotional goodbye following the end of his tenure as the Doctor. Gatwa began his run on Doctor Who in 2023 in an era that was designed to be a jumping-on point for new viewers. With a deal that had Doctor Who stream on Disney+ as well as release on the BBC, Gatwa's run became the second shortest since the series rebooted in 2005, after Christopher Eccleston only had one season as the Ninth Doctor. Doctor Who season 15 saw the Doctor trying to return to Earth before it could be destroyed.

Gatwa issued a farewell via the official Doctor Who YouTube page. Gatwa acknowledges that every actor who plays the Doctor goes in knowing that the role is temporary and will be passed on to someone else. He notes that the role is both physically and emotionally...

9 sci-fi/fantasy shows that are only for genre superfans

Looking for a new sci-fi/fantasy show to binge? You can't go wrong with any of these nine series, which run the gamut from brand new to tried and true:

Rosamund Pike (Moiraine Damodred), Josha Stradowski (Rand al’Thor) in The Wheel of Time season 3. Image: Prime Video. The Wheel of Time

Let's get the bad news out of the way first...The Wheel of Time has been cancelled, but that doesn't mean it's not deserving of being on our list. Based on the 14 book-series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, The Wheel of Time books walked so that the Song of Ice and Fire books could run.

If we had to explain this fantasy epic in full, we'd be here all day. It's a magical story about a group of unassuming country kids — Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, Egwene al'Vere and Nynaeve al'Meara — taken on a world-spanning journey...

Doctor Who Showrunner Explains Why Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor Constantly Changes Outfits
Image
Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies has spoken out about the reason Ncuti Gatwa’s iteration of The Doctor goes through so many different looks. Davies made it clear that this choice was an intentional one to veer into the new era of the Whoniverse.

Since Ncuti Gatwa has taken over the role, the Scottish actor — and Sex Education alum — has avoided honing down a particular look in favor of a variety of flashy outfits. Davies noted that he wanted the Fifteenth Doctor to be more easily accessible and relatable for fans of dress-up and cosplay: "You can put on any costume and say, ‘I’m the Doctor today,’ because that’s what he’d do.” This news comes to us from Polygon.

Since the beginning of the show back in the 60s, each iteration of The Doctor has defined itself firstly through mannerisms and secondly through style. Each Doctor has a signature look,...

The Real Reason David Tennant Left ‘Doctor Who’ Mid-Season
Image
Imagine having the ability to travel through time and space, not in a flashy spaceship or a futuristic pod, but in a blue British police box – Yep, that’s Doctor Who for you. Even though the protagonist travels through space, it is not all about guns and lasers but more about cleverness and beating aliens using a sonic screwdriver.

When I first heard about the show, going with the title, I was expecting hospital scrubs and emergency room meltdowns, and if you clicked on the show thinking the same, you might not get what you came for, but it won’t leave you disappointed. The show first aired in 1963 and has been going on for decades; it is generally hard for shows to run this long due to the original cast leaving the show and losing its value. But that is where the narration comes in.

David Tennant Was Warned Not to Take Doctor Who Role
Image
When it comes to Doctor Whoactors, it is hard to argue that David Tennant is the most famous and beloved to play the role of The Doctor, both in new and old Who. Tennant played the Tenth Doctor from 2005 to 2010, but even after regenerating and moving on to other projects, he returned for the 50th-anniversary special 'The Day of the Doctor' in 2013 and then made the unprecedented move of coming back as the Fourteenth Doctor for a series of specials in 2023. Tennant has gone on to have an incredible career, but he almost missed out on the chance of the role that made him a star if he had followed the advice of a former agent.

“Don’t Touch It”: David Tennant Reveals He Almost Didn’t Play ‘Doctor Who’
Image
So much goes into the casting of a character, those involved have no idea, truly, how that casting may be received by the audience at large. This week on David Tennant Does a Podcast With…David Tennant and his wife Georgia Tennant, also an actress, talked about how he almost didn't take the job that made him famous. The Doctor Who actor reveals that "I had an agent at the time who was like, ‘don't touch it. It's not going to work’." Yes, David Tennant considered saying no to being the Tenth Doctor in the early aughts.

Looking at the greater context, it could make sense in a way. When Russell T. Davies rebooted the franchise in 2005, Christopher Eccleston left after only one season of playing the Ninth Doctor and after he left, that meant Davies had to practically start over. If you're truly worried about there being a timeline...

'Doctor Who' Star Jodie Whittaker Reflects on Toxic Fans & Gender Controversy
Image
Jodie Whittaker, the first woman to play the iconic lead on BBC's hit sci-fi series Doctor Who, has reflected on her time on the series and the issue of dealing with toxic fans. Whittaker played the Thirteenth Doctor from 2018 to 2022 over the course of three series and 31 episodes of television. Sadly, Whittaker's casting made headlines for both good and ill. Many fans loved her tenure as the Doctor, but there were also plenty of audience members who made their disdain for her incarnation of the time lord known, often critiquing the idea of a woman in the role of the space alien as "woke," a criticism her predecessor, Ncuti Gatwa has also faced.

Speaking with The Times to promote her new Netflix series Toxic Towns, Whittaker spoke about her time working on Doctor Who, notably the toxicity around her casting and the pressure she felt.

Doctor Who Star Explains Why Martha Jones' Return Was Canceled

Former Doctor Who star Freema Agyeman has revealed why a return for her character Martha Jones was scrapped. Martha was the Tenth Doctor's main companion in Doctor Who's third season, where she traveled the world amassing forces to help free humanity from The Master's enslavement.

Martha was then brought back as part of an all-star team of former Doctor Who companions in season four's two part finale, where Ten (David Tennant) and Donna Noble (Catherine Tate) called all of their friends together to fight off a Dalek invasion of earth. These episodes saw Martha seemingly being recruited by Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) to join his black-ops team, though full-time appearances in the Torchwood spinoff series never materialized.

Quick LinksBossk's Suit Appeared in One of Doctor Who's Most Important EpisodesBossk's Suit is Not the Only Connection Between Star Wars and Doctor Who

Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire StrikesBack introduced several bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to locate the Millennium Falcon. Alongside the famous Boba Fett stood Dengar the Demolisher, Ig-88, Bossk, 4-lom, and Zuckuss. Expanded universe material like K. W. Jeter's The Bounty Hunter Wars novels developed these mercenaries, and some even went on to become fan favorites. However, at the time of filming, they were just background characters meant to fill out the scene. Boba was the only one of the bounty hunters who even spoke in the film, aside from Bossk making some unintelligible growls towards the Imperial officers who insulted them.

As such, many of the bounty hunters' costumes were thrown together using existing materials. For example, Ig-88's head was originally...

I Hope Doctor Who Season 15 Isn't Repeating Its Controversial Tardis Mystery From Ncuti Gatwa's First Season
Image
The Doctor Who season 15 trailer teases some really exciting episodes, but I'm also worried that Ncuti Gatwa's second season as the show's leading man is already retreading the same old ground as his inaugural run. The ending of Doctor Who season 14 wrapped up many of the mysteries that had permeated the beginning of the Disney era, even if some of the resolutions were less than satisfactory. However, there was one storyline in particular that I would, at best, describe as divisive. Weirdly, Russell T. Davies seems content to revisit a very similar arc.

Unlike Millie Gibson's introduction as Ruby Sunday in 2023's "The Church on Ruby Road", the end of Doctor Who's 2024 Christmas special doesn't really set up the next run of episodes. Thankfully, the show has still given us a preview of what Doctor Who season 15's story will look like by providing a fast-paced compilation...

Doctor Who's New Master Retcon Makes His Regeneration Streak Even More Impressive
Image
One huge Doctor Who fan theory about the Master has been validated by a recent Doctor Who release. This theory constitutes a bit of a retcon to previous Doctor Who episodes, confirming that a popular fan theory about what was really going on is actually true. This newly proven theory makes the Doctor's long-standing relationship with the dastardly Master even more impressive. Going into Doctor Who season 15, this will be interesting, as the Master returns in a 2025 audiobook story that will sit nicely alongside the season's episodes.

The Master has been at loggerheads with the Doctor since he was originally portrayed by Roger Delgado in the 1970s. First appearing in 1971's "Terror of the Autons," the Master clashed with Jon Pertwee's Third Doctor, who was in the role between 1970 and 1974. This villain has caused the Doctor the most regenerations out of all the series' villains, by far. The success...

Why The BBC Feared A Female Doctor Before Whittaker (Did It Almost Happen?)
Image
Despite rumors swirling for decades about a female Doctor happening in Doctor Who, the BBC avoided it until Jodie Whittaker's run as the Thirteenth Doctor. As the first female Doctor, Whittaker was failed by showrunner Chris Chibnall, whose controversial "Timeless Child" storyline drastically changed Doctor Who canon. Still, as the first woman to play the Doctor, Whittaker herself was praised for her fun, fresh take on the Doctor, her warm, lively personality bubbling through as one of the most empowering female TV characters of the decade. So to say the first run of a female Doctor was a mixed bag would be accurate.

That's not to say Doctor Who hasn't come close to a female regeneration - it has, a few times. But it never panned out, for various reasons, though arguably the real reason has never been given publicly. For a show that's as long-running as Doctor Who,...

Doctor Who Confirms An Obscure Detail From Tom Baker's Era Is Still Canon & Can Return In Season 15
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the 2024 Doctor Who Christmas special, "Joy to the World."Doctor Who's rich and storied history means the show can address long-forgotten storylines, and showrunner Russell T. Davies has chosen to do so with an incredibly niche piece of canon from the era of Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor. Baker was one of the most popular actors to play the Time Lord in Doctor Who's classic era, and the return of Sutekh Doctor Who season 14 proves that Davies is also a fan of that period of the franchise's history. However, the show's leader is delving even deeper into Four's past to possibly help inform Doctor Who season 15's story.

Tom Baker remains the longest-serving of all the actors to play the Doctor. He made his debut as Four in 1974 and stepped away in 1981. His lengthy time as the show's leading man resulted in many storylines...

Ncuti Gatwa's Doctor Who Season 2 Trailer Introduces New Companion
Image
A new teaser trailer has been released for Season 2 of the new Doctor Who with Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. In his next season, Gatwa's Doctor will be joined by a new companion, as has previously been reported.

The first teaser, shared by Disney+ on Christmas, introduces Varada Sethu as the new companion for the Doctor. A brief scene in the teaser sees her shouting to the Doctor, "You need to get me home!" Notably, while a new companion is coming into the fray, Millie Gibson's Ruby Sunday is sticking around, as she also makes an appearance in the video. This debunks the rumors that Gibson was being completely replaced by Sethu. The new season will drop in 2025, but for now, fans can check out the new trailer below.

Skaro Returns In Doctor Who & The Daleks Look More Powerful Than Anything We've Seen In 58 Years
Image
The Doctor Who season 15 trailer brings back Skaro at the height of its power, promising to show the Daleks at their most dangerous. Ncuti Gatwa is set to return in Doctor Who season 15, now accompanied by newcomer Varada Sethu as his new companion. The trailer promises a lot of thrills and excitement, as the Doctor tries to take his companion home - "the long way round," a very familiar line from the 50th anniversary.

As exciting as that may be, though, the trailer promises something even better. There's a glimpse of a golden city, one with domed spires reaching to the heavens, and spaceships shaped like flying saucers. The design will be very familiar to anyone who's familiar with the TV Century 21 "Daleks" comic strips - this is Skaro, the homeworld of the Daleks.

10 Times TV Shows Took Big Swings That Shouldn't Have Worked But Did
Image
It's not uncommon for TV shows to take huge risks to keep up with the demands and requirements of the ever-changing landscape of television. When a series throws in a character change, plot twist, or unexpected shift in the formula, it can sometimes throw the entire project off balance. However, when executed correctly, these big swings can pay off enormously and serve to cement the show as a classic. While plenty of formulaic shows are popular and high quality, the pieces of TV that will be remembered for years to come are those that weren't afraid to stand out.

While some of these TV shows shocked viewers with great plot twists many times over, there are other ways for series to branch out other than story choices. A common risk that producers and studios are often hesitant to green-light is budget increases or any type of plot point that would alienate or upset audiences.

"I Was A Madman To Give It Up": Fan-Favorite Doctor Who Star Reflects On Departing As The Time Lord
Image
Tom Baker offers an honest and unflinching recollection of his departure from Doctor Who and his regrets about leaving the Fourth Doctor behind. A more eccentric and eclectic take on the Time Lord than his three predecessors, Baker helmed the Tardis from 1974 to 1981, facing Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, and aliens posing as Egyptian Gods of Death. Alongside reprising his role in Big Finish audio dramas and various additional projects, Baker would return to portray the mysterious Currator in the final moments of Doctor Who's 50th-anniversary special in 2013.

In a rare interview with Radio Times Magazine, Baker reflected on his Doctor Who departure. While still holding the role in high regard to this day, the actor regretted letting go of the role after seven seasons. Baker also admitted that he was difficult to work with, which he attributed to his own insecurity about the impact playing the Doctor had left on...

'Doctor Who' Broke One of Its Own Rules With This Christmas Episode
Image
Doctor Who is one of the most beloved TV shows of all time, debuting over 80 years ago. Tom Baker, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Jodie Whittaker and so many more fantastic actors have embodied the role of the time-travelling nomad, with Ncuti Gatwa currently bringing a youthful exuberance to the role that we haven't seen for a long time. However, perhaps one of the only downsides to such a beloved show is the fact there are hundreds and hundreds of hours of historical lore. No doubt there is some kind of show bible, but nonetheless, the writer's task of sticking to such extensive contexts must provide a challenge.

Doctor Who: Every Multi-Doctor Story, Ranked
Image
Doctor Who is a sci-fi series unlike any other, with a protagonist who not only travels through time and space, but who also regularly changes their face. To date, there have been 15 different Doctors leading the show, alongside a handful of others who have only appeared in supporting roles or flashbacks to the Doctor's forgotten past. Of course, any character who travels through time long enough is sure to eventually run into themselves, and a character who changes their appearance while could meet one of their past selves. The Doctor has run into their own past incarnations several times throughout Doctor Who history.

The tradition of multi-Doctor stories, which see multiple incarnations of the Doctor teaming up, began in 1973 with "The Three Doctors," as a way of marking the series' 10th anniversary. Since then, major anniversaries for Doctor Who have often featured appearances from multiple Doctors. A few other multi-Doctor...

10 Christmas TV Episodes That Are Surprisingly Dark
Image
Christmas specials are normally a time for TV shows to spread some holiday cheer, although some festive episodes have leaned into the darkest sides of the season. While beloved classics like A Charlie Brown Christmas have become annual viewing for families around the world, other viewers would much rather watch a Christmas special that doesn’t shy away from the challenges of the holidays. While it can sometimes be jarring to watch a particularly dark Christmas special, it’s also important that TV shows don’t lose their individuality just because Christmas is considered a time of joy and togetherness.

Many of the greatest Christmas specials of all time address dark subject matters and aren’t afraid to tackle terrifying themes or produce stories of sad sentimentality. While hopeful holiday specials have their merit, there’s something enjoyable about a Christmas special that pushes back against the conventions of the...

Peter Capaldi's Doctor Who Return Stance Makes Him The New Tom Baker & Christopher Eccleston
Image
Peter Capaldi’s stance on a possible return to Doctor Who places him in the same boat as Tom Baker and Christopher Eccleston. Peter Capaldi joined a long line of actors who played “Doctor Who” as he appeared in the British sci-fi show from 2014-2017 as the Twelfth Doctor. As of 2024, the Time Lord has gone through three regenerations since, and Ncuti Gatwa was cast as the Fifteenth Doctor for season 14. Considering most actors can only dream of playing the famous character, it is surprising that Peter Capaldi has stated that he doesn’t want to return to Doctor Who.

Doctor Who is confirmed to return for season 15 in May 2025 under its new network, Disney+. The show previously aired on BBC from 2005 onwards and encompassed the reign of Peter Capaldi, who delivered the oldest version of the Doctor since Classic Doctor Who. Capaldi also appeared in Doctor Who before being cast as the Twelfth Doctor,...

Clara Oswald Almost Replaced The Doctor In Doctor Who's 50th Anniversary Episode
Image
Doctor Who's 50th-anniversary special, "The Day of the Doctor," included three main actors as the Doctor, but Steven Moffat's original pitch to the BBC surprisingly had Jenna Coleman's Clara Oswald as the episode's focus. All the best Doctor Who companions have a lasting impact on the show, and Clara fits that description. The Impossible Girl became so interwoven with the Doctor's timeline that she became one of the most important figures in Doctor Who history. If Moffat's first "The Day of the Doctor" idea had been put into production, Clara would have become even more legendary.

2013's "The Day of the Doctor" remains one of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time. The proper introduction of John Hurt's War Doctor allowed Moffat to make a brilliant addition to the many Gallifrey destructions and other retcons that have long permeated the franchise. However, Moffat's original pitch...

Beyond the Screen: How TV Shows Are Sparking Real-World Change
Image
We often watch TV to escape an increasingly distressing world, but some shows do the opposite.

TV shows can spark real-world change by raising awareness of issues, and some go even further, encouraging viewers to take action for social change.

Television can be an incredibly powerful yet underrated tool for activism. There’s a reason books and shows are banned in dictatorships, and we need to fight hard not to let them be.

(Disney+/BBC (Screenshot)) Science Fiction Shows Play A Huge Part In Real-World Change

I’ve always admired Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone because Serling so masterfully hid social activism in science fiction stories.

In the 1950s and early 1960s, there were some things he couldn’t say outright.

He was a fierce advocate for racial and sexual equality at a time when those ideas were considered taboo to talk about on television.

Doctor Who Showrunners Praise Former Doctor As "The Most Phenomenal Piece Of Casting On Any Show Ever"
Image
Doctor Who showrunners Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat come together to celebrate the "phenomenal" casting of one Doctor in particular. Looking back at the Fourth Doctor era, Tom Baker assumed the role in 1974, leading the show for 172 episodes across 7 seasons. Baker's final battle against the Master (Anthony Ainley) in 1981's "Logopolis" brought his adventures to an end with the Fourth Doctor's regeneration, but he has since reprised the role in one-off appearances and audio dramas.

When speaking to Doctor Who Magazine (via RadioTimes) in a larger retrospective on Phillip Hinchcliffe's producing tenure, Moffat turned attention to the cast of that era, particularly praising Baker, Elizabeth Sladen, and Ian Marter's Tardis team of the Fourth Doctor, Sarah Jane Smith, and Harry Sullivan. He went so far as to say Doctor Who hasn't a better cast, explaining:

Steven Moffat: I know this was a legacy of the previous producer, but...

David Tennant's Regeneration Had 1 Major Difference, But Doctor Who Weirdly Didn't Mention It
Image
Doctor Who said goodbye to David Tennant for the first time in 2009 when the Tenth Doctor regenerated, but his iconic departure stands apart from that of his predecessors in a way that the show never openly acknowledges. Of all the actors to play the Doctor, Tennant's Tenth arguably experienced the most drawn-out version of the regeneration process. While preparing to change his face, he managed to hold off the ordeal long enough to visit all his old friends one last time. However, there's another reason beyond Ten's emotional farewell tour that makes his regeneration so unique.

Every Doctor Who regeneration sequence comes with consequences, but the main one is that the long-running sci-fi show's lead actor is replaced. The phenomenon has contributed massively to the franchise's 60-year history, as no single actor is required for the story to continue. That being said, there was a time when the Doctor's...

BBC Removes 2 Doctor Who Episodes From Tom Baker's Classic Era
Image
Despite assembling its largest Doctor Who library to celebrate its 60th anniversary, the BBC are set to remove several classic-era stories from its streaming library. As part of the show's milestone celebrations in 2023, the corporation set out to host nearly the entirety of the franchise on the IPlayer platform, from the classic era to the modern revival, to other spin-offs and documentaries. Alongside hosting nearly the entirety of the series from 1963 to Doctor Who season 14, the IPlayer would soon become home to several exclusive documentaries and behind-the-scenes series.

Just over a year after the BBC brought all available Doctor Who media onto its platform, RadioTimes reports that two stories have been removed from the IPlayer platform. "Terror of the Zygons" and "The Seeds of Doom" have been removed from the service, leaving Tom Baker's Fourth Doctor's season 13 adventures incomplete. While no official announcement or explanation was given ahead of the removal,...

All 15 Multi-Doctor TV Stories In Doctor Who Explained
Image
Over the years, there have been several Doctor Who stories that feature more than one version of the Doctor. Many of the greatest Doctor Who stories of all time focused on the titular character crossing paths with themselves. However, some of these episodes or serials werent primarily concentrated on more than one Doctor together.

Some of these multi-Doctor stories only saw the Doctors overlap for a few scenes or even a brief moment, whereas others consumed the entire plot. While many of Doctor Whos best companions also appeared, the main focus was that there were one or more incarnations of the Doctor.

The Three Doctors Featuring: The First, Second, & Third Doctors

The Three Doctors was the very first multi-Doctor story in Doctor Who. This serial marked the tenth anniversary of the show, in which the Third Doctors exile to Earth finally came to an end, and he crossed paths with his first two incarnations.

Creep Encounters opens at the site where a UFO has made a crash landing. The government is claiming that it’s a small plane that crashed and is trying to clean things up as quickly as possible. That becomes a bit more complicated when a spider-like alien escapes and bites a few soldiers before disappearing into the woods.

Fourth Doctor & Doctor Who Companion Reunite After 47 Years In New Image
Image
47 years after their first adventure together, Fourth Doctor Tom Baker and companion actor Louise Jameson have a heartwarming Doctor Who reunion in a previously unseen cast photo. The companion made her debut in 1977's "The Face of Evil" as a member of the reclusive and stranded Sevateem tribe on an uncharted jungle world. Leela would travel with the Doctor across nine stories from 1977 to 1978, until "The Invasion of Time" saw her choose to leave the Tardis and remain on the Doctor's homeworld of Gallifrey after falling in love with a Gallifreyan.

While it may have been many lifetimes since the Fourth Doctor and Leela parted ways, a new photo has seen the stars behind the duo reunite. As reported by RadioTimes on Twitter, Big Finish have released a new photo of Baker and Jameson to mark the release of the upcoming Fourth Doctor audio dramas "The Hellwood Inheritance" and "The...
