Subhash K Jha looks back at Anupam Kher’s directorial debut, Om Jai Jagdish, which released in July 2002. Interestingly, his new film Tanvi The Great is hitting the big screen now.

Om Jai Jagdish is as giddying and utopian as family sagas in films go. Three brothers Om (Anil Kapoor), Jai (Fardeen Khan) and Jagdish (Abhishek Bachchan), under the supervision of an ever-patient mother (Waheeda Rehman), try to transcend the inherent limitations of such families, but only superficially. To his credit Kher checks the narrative from lapsing into excessive melodrama. But a film cannot thrive on that alone.

In his determination to be mellow, rather than melodramatic, Kher denudes the narrative of all vigour and vitality.The audience might pine for high drama when world of the spunky mother Saraswati and her idealistic elder son Om begins to come apart. Middle son Jai’s worldly-wise wife (Urmila Matondkar) weans him away from home.

Shah Rukh And Mahima Chaudhry’s Pardes To Make Theatre Comeback?

The re-release season does not seem to end anytime soon as another cult classic film, Pardes, is arriving back in cinemas. The Shah Rukh Khan and Mahima Chaudhry starrer was originally released in 1997 and is remembered for its romance and music.

Directed by Subhash Ghai, the movie follows Ganga, who gets married to an Nri while in love with another man. Pardes joins the list of other Srk classics like Veer-Zaara and Kal Ho Naa Ho, which made a comeback in theaters in 2024.

Pardes To Re-Release in Theaters

The 1997 romantic-musical is heading back to theaters on Friday, November 15th, 2024. This will mark a re-release clash of two Shah Rukh Khan films as Kal Ho Naa Ho also arrives in cinemas on the same day. PVR Inox Cinemas announced the re-release of Pardes with a social media post on November 12th.

Actress Shilpa Agnihotri, who was last seen in the show ‘Vish Ya Amrit: Sitara’, makes her return to TV with the show, ‘Tere Ishq Mein Ghayal’. She plays the role of Sudha, who is the wife of Sameer (Nikhil Arya) and she talks about the show and her character.

“The title of Tere Ishq..’ makes me think of wounded love, something very deep. I think the VFX of the show is its Usp. Characters have been well-etched and have the right tune in with each other. Also, the way it’s being shot beautifully. There is a method to this madness which makes the entire concept and presentation amazing, stylish.”

Shilpa says that initially she does not know much about her character. “I think in time, I will know much more. We have just started and there is a way to go,” she shares.
