Rahul Rawail approached Karan Kapoor for Samundar right before he signed Sultanat. Rawail told Karan that Sunny Deol was having date issue's and would not be able to do the film. They wanted to shoot Samundar before the monsoon. Karan declined the offer because he thought his dates would be booked with Sultanat. Karan ended up staying at home because Sultanat got delayed. By then Sunny Deol went back into the film.
