In 1948, just three years after the liberation of Nazi death camps, a group of Jewish American pilots answered a call for help. Before his career as a novelist and screenwriter, Livingston was a fighter pilot. He was one of the founding members of the Israeli Air Force, and he was instrumental in ensuring Israel's victory during the 1948 Arab-Israeli War.
