  • Real Steel actually shows Real Heart. This one is for both the kids and parents!

"Real Steal" is based on the 1956 short story called "Steel" by Richard Matheson (a visionary director and writer who wrote other great films like "Somewhere in Time" with Christopher Reeve, "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams, and "I Am Legend" with Will Smith) and trust me this film is well worth watching at the BIG screen.

IMDb summary: "Set in the near future, where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father."

My summary: "Welcome to a world where a displaced former boxer must come to grips with his past career and create a new future in the robot boxing arena. Along the way, Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) learns what it means to accept responsibility and be a father to his son Max (Dakoto Goyo) by discovering that "Real Steel" is from the heart."

Plot/Storyline: The movie picked up the solid and refreshing idea from the short story "Steel" which breathes life into the characters and action sequences. Although, there was nothing mind-boggling like inception, Real Steel did have its humorous and uplifting moments that gave it sparkle and character! 7/10

Cinematography/CGI: Filming is the place which often makes or breaks a film after the storyline is concerned...Real Steel did not disappoint in this arena. The Animatronic robots built for the film and the motion capture technology were state-of-the-art. You started to even "feel" sorry for the robots that were getting pummeled into the ground. 9/10

Acting/Action: Acting and action sequences were another great element to this film. Hugh Jackman and Dakoto Goyo both act a great father and son duo. In addition, I really enjoyed the range of emotions: the tension, anxiety, joy, and even the cocky arrogance...You watch the movie and you will know what I am talking about. 8/10

Overall Shock and Awe: What is the last movie that you heard people clapping not once, not twice, but at least three times? Yes, my showing had an audience of parents, children, grandparents, and teenagers, and all of us were cheering and clapping for Charlie, Max, and Atom many times throughout the movie! 9/10

Go ahead and take your family out for this one, its an inspiring film that will stick with you long after the show is over!

  • Entertaining, Sophisticated, Gritty - A New Breed of Sherlock Holmes

Opening on Christmas Day, Sherlock Holmes showed itself to be worthy as a blockbuster hit. To be frank, I came with an expectation that the movie would be terrible. But I was proved wrong.

Sherlock Holmes seems to be like the new James Bond: gritty, hardcore, and always ready for a good fight. He is not only intellectually sophisticated but also quite a brawler. Watson his side kick who is his loyal friend is always there to save his dear partner from harm's way. Irene plays the notorious thief and lover of Mr. Holmes. She is a wily character who keeps the reader guessing her motives.

The cinematography of the movie was special because it showed parts of the film as Holmes' future logical deductions. The movie also used the tradition method of explaining the Sherlock Holmes deductions after given the facts and clues.

Sherlock Holmes' evil nemesis play his part well. There were many humorous antics and displays of ingenious traps. The other minor characters also added to the crude humor and laughter.

Overall, this movie deserves to be watched. It comes with sparkles of spontaneity and fun. And it may even leave you wanting a sequel! Give it a try!

  • Artistic Internation Film... Give it a try

To keep this post short, I will give you my first and last impression of the movie.

At first, I thought the movie was a little confusing...I could not figure out where the plot was gonna take me.(I refuse to read the plot summary unless I am totally puzzled and that happens rarely). I decided to wait it out and see if the movie would explain itself. I am really happy I did.

The movie turned out to have a wonderful script and subplots that kept the film's continuity. I really enjoyed the attention to details and the ending of the movie was very artistic (I really appreciate artistic films). I am really surprised that even though the film appears to be done with a low budget...it turned out to have beautiful scenes of the mountains, village life, and the beach!

The actors performed there lines well and I was really caught up in the spirit of the villagers against the guards. There were some acting parts that could have been better, but that is true of all movies(there is no perfect movie in my opinion, just a matter of taste) As a whole, I thought all the actors played their parts well especially Roberto Alvarez the priest and Maribel Verdu who play Manuela. The main actor Carmelo Gomez acted true to his part as the Portero, El (The GOALKEEPER).

A great international film. Give the movie a try, you might enjoy it.
