I wanted to like this movie more than I actually did. I found the characters were just kind of unlikeable generally. All very self absorbed. Especially the two daughter characters. The younger of whom looks down on the male love interest by calling him that "garbage man". There seemed zero actual support for Hildy's alcohol problem from her family, the daughters just seemed to see her as an ATM.
I think maybe the dogs were the most likeable characters, though the Kevin kleine character came a close second. It didn't actually seem like the main charcter Hilday really even liked the town very much, or anyone in it. She showed very little emotional range and just seemed kind of numb to everything, maybe that is what being an alcoholic does to you.
The movie is worth a watch if you are a fan of Sigorney Weaver. I hope she gets some better roles in future though.

I love the actors, loved the location and loved an older romance getting a look in for a change. However, the plot was lazy and it kind of felt like an opportunity was missed, it was only okay when it could have been great. It felt like the actors just sleepwalked through the movie and the script wasted their talents.
Also, what stopped me from enjoying the movie more was the dumbness of the supposedly very intelligent daughter. I mean, what is the rush to marry someone you have known for only 30 days? Maybe she had been binge-watching 30 day fiancé. I get that he's a hunk and it's a paradise island but after a couple of years of picking seaweed even that will get old.
There was great chemistry between George and Julia and it kind of felt like we were cheated out of a proper smooch between them! It is worthwhile for the nostalgia factor but not a classic and probably not even a re-watch.

It is a slow-burner where not a whole lot happens until quite far into the movie. In saying that I enjoyed the brother-sister dynamic and loved how the actors played off each other. Also, there was some great cinematography.
The movie gets side-tracked with a subplot regarding Steven Yeun's character that seems to have no impact on the overall direction of the movie.
The movie tries to take on a well worn subject matter from a new angle and that is tough to do. If you want a traditional sci-fi flick re-watch some Stephen King.
It's good. I enjoyed it enough to not feel like I had wasted my time or my money. But will I remember it in a few years?
I guess we know the answer to that one... Nope!
