Owen Wilson carries off this light weight comedy well, he's funny with good timing, plus his character is well written and interesting.
The young golfer is an awfully unlikeable character and his girlfriend (I think) Zero is even worse, they are both grumpy, spoilt people and I'll throw in badly acted.
And that just drags down this show to just being okay, firstly is Zero a boy pretending to be a girl or vice versa, I'm not sure, but more importantly I don't care, she's just a boring sad character, I can't quit workout why they dropped her into the story.
More amusing than funny, with all the best lines going to Wilson, again the golf prodigy and his girlfriend are unlikeable characters without any funny lines, just dull attempts at comments on society.

An okay but at times slow and dragged out series.
A few consistent things kept pulling it back.
The relationship between Michael and Diana involved far too many long, at times depressing chats. One or two would be fine but half of some episodes just consisted of the two of them talking to each other about sad things in low tones, I actually fast forwarded a few of their chats.
For a major criminal gang, the gang seemed very poorly resourced, the gang members dressed like down and out drug addicts, sometimes it looked unbelievable.
To support the storyline some of the situations seemed silly, a few ridiculous, to sort out major management and financial issues with a cage fight was ridiculous and just seemed to amount to nothing.
Many of the support henchmen looked sadly out of place, they literally look like extras just standing in the background.

John Ford's use of the landscape, horizons and sets are on full display here, he uses them like no one else to reflect the size, loneliness and harshness of the old west.
The backdrop is everything and the people just a small part of it. The actors get used by Ford to their full abilities, John Wayne was perfect for this role, a lonely hard man driven by violence and hatred, he must of loved making this one.
Hunter's role is very well written, literally hardening and maturing on screen, again Ford ensures this is set into the script, costumes and action scenes.
The open racism while unpalatable today is injected to reflect basic human emotions, ugly but accurate.
There is no more John Ford or John Wayne, so they will never make anything like The Searchers again, so as westerns come & go this one is one of the benchmarks in the genre.
