It's a made for TV movie, and it feels like it.
This movie hits close to home being from Oklahoma and growing up deathly afraid of tornadoes. The acting is terrible but the concept is great, a film about a storm that is unpredictable? Yeah, I'm into it.
The movie is not something you'll remark about to your film friends, but if you grew up in the Midwest or the south you'll definitely feel the nostalgia when you hear the tornado sirens and the old weather broadcasts.
I'd definitely watch this movie again, but I'd suggest watching Twister over this.

Why Snake? Why couldn't you just stay in Cleveland? I mean, you got out of New York...which was amazing, but you never should have gone to LA.
This movie is bad, it had potential, the story is decent, but the execution is not good. Personally, they tried to incorporate far too much CGI into this film and it was done so poorly that the end result is abysmal.
There are too many scenes to count with bad CGI, but my personal favorite (i.e. the worst) is the surfing sequence. First, you can totally tell it's not Kurt Russell surfing, and then you incorporate Steve Buscemi driving next to the tidal wave it's an absolutely disgusting scene.
I loved Escape from New York and it has a fantastic story but this movie clearly didn't need to be made. The only saving grace of this movie is the basketball scene, it honestly is super memorable.

Joaquin Phoenix has an incredible performance in this biopic about John Callahan.
The true star of the show though is Jonah Hill, his role as Callahan's AA sponsor is out of this world. I have never looked at Hill as a serious actor, I mean just look at his resume, but he truly steps forward here. I was blown away at his depth in the role and truly felt his compassion. Joaquin being great wasn't out of the ordinary, I mean he has a long history of being a fantastic actor.
The only real downfall for me on this film was I felt like the whole movie was super quiet...maybe it was a bad speaker system on my end, but I felt like I had to have this movie blasting loud to hear what they were saying. I know that's a silly thing to count against a movie, but for me, it was a pain.
Also, the story structure was kind of all over the place, it was a great story, don't get me wrong but it's not very linear which can make it hard to keep up if you're not fully engaged.
Either way, it was a great movie, I would definitely watch it again.
