Dr: Goldfarb and the Bikini Machine which I saw yesterday on Amazon yesterday is an incredibly stupid film. In fact if I made a list of the worst films of the 1960's it would be Candy ( 1968) Walk On The Wild Side and Dr Goldfarb in that order. Is there anything I liked? Sure the opening credits and the Annette Funicello cameo in the crypt. What are the worst things? 1: The scenes involving Susan Hart, which really made absolutely no sense. 2: The chase scene in San Francisco with the most obvious use of a blue screen I ever saw. Then there is the case of Vincent Price ( Dr. Goldfarb) who offers up the worst performance I ever saw from him. 1 out of 10 stars is too good for me. This film gets 3/4 of a star from me. 1/3 for the credits and 1/2 for 15 seconds of Annette.
If you like Led Zeppelin, Becoming Led Zeppelin is a must see. The music and concert footage is timeless. There is also a lot of stuff that I did not know such as Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones playing on Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger, and how shy and interview wary John Bonham was ( the exact opposite of his Bonzo image), and it was great hearing him speak. Another major positive is how relaxed Page, Jones and lead singer Robert Plant were. It seemed like the guys were having a lot of fun telling their story through their own words. One last point it is interesting how much more popular Zeppelin was (and still is) more popular in America than in the UK or anywhere else. The documentary cost $5m to make and it made $13.2 million and $10.5 million of it was in the US. Again don't miss it. Easy 10/10 stars.
