This is absolutely NOT PG. So much innuendo and inappropriate 'things' that a 10 year old wouldn't get it...but my husband and I kept looking at each other like...what?! Ya, not a PG rating...plus, so many of those inappropriate things just weren't necessary in the movie. Love Jack Black, and the way the movie was created was great and on the right track....just needed a different writer. The rating should have been increased to PG-13. Understand the liberties taken with the movie vs the rules of the real game...but think the kids were disappointed realizing the differences. It was not enjoyable, even if you know the game or read the books.
Wow! This was very remincsent of Before Sunrise / Before Sunset - esque story (without the romance). Incredible display of the power of human connection, of listening, of being present, and a perfect balance of caring and curiosity. Good humans. Loved everything about this, and the acting was great - Sean Penn was amazing, heartfelt...I mean the watery eyes at poignant moments... had my eyes welling up as well. Would highly recommend anyone who loves those July Delpy / Ethan Hawke stories to give this a watch. Not every day or even every decade a dialogue driven movie comes along that makes you feel their connection. So well done. Kudos to the writers and the crew!
I love scary movies, but this is literally the first scary horror suspense movie (since the grudge) that I have seen in decades to actually make me jump and scream out loud... multiple times. Even the hubbie was scared and he does not typically get scared easily... there are just that many good jump scare scenes. 100% a must watch. Very weird, but very well done, and it closes the loop on a lot of things in the storyline. Wish it was actually a little longer, like the scenes with the wife... could see the sister's character having a prequel movie for sure with other oddities. Really enjoyed the acting, and kudos to the crew!
