Forget the past review, this is one hell of a movie!!! I'm so happy to see stuff like this or Hatchet, cause they have the feeling of the golden age of gore horror funny films... remember brain damage or house and stuff like that? just friends popcorn and a bad ass funny over the top film! ...its so nice to see some good old style horror films, now that horror is so conservative, full of ghost dramatic stories or remakes. And above all that we have one of the modern classic actors of the genre, Mr Englund. I think there will be a lot of people who will find this film bad or something, but to that people, please rent or buy another Asian Hollywood remake, drama/ghosts from spain or a new Texas chainsaw clone. For all of you who enjoy : basket case, braindead, brain damage, house and evil dead, this will be a pleasure to watch. Thanks to the people behind this film, this was one hell of a ride!!! truly thanks!! and I'm looking forward for a part II
It was a pleasure to see on screen the true soul of one of the more traditional martial art. The story is great and the masters who play the lead characters do a great job, but for me, what the film was all about is simple as one word: Karate, the soul of the art, the realism of the fights, the Kata, just everything in the movie looks so real and pure. I think in some ways this film reminds me the works of Yoyi Yamada (the hidden blade - the twilight samurai) who also show the realism of the samurai warrior in his last days. For all of you who has practice some kind of martial art, this is a must! but like another comment said, don't expect tony jaa kind of fights, but the simplicity an power of the karate art. great film
i remember when i saw: no retreat no surrender, the karate kid, the karate warrior, the first kick boxer, bloodsport and many more back in the good old days... this movie brings back all that memories for me. Sure its not original, but isn't the wasted formula of cop/martial arts/CIA/ex CIA blah blah blah that has poison the genre in the last years. This is like a gift for all of us who enjoy our cinematic adolescence watching a bad ass Russian kick boxer versus a disciple of the ghost of Bruce lee. I really want to thank the makers of this film, thanks for make me feel like 16 again, thanks for a great 80's old school martial arts formula: new kid with a past/funny friend/gorgeous girl/the bad rich kid who happens to be a martial arts monster/the master/the training/tournament ... i love it!!! hopping someday for: NEVER BACK DOWN 2!!!!!
PS. i also enjoy films like "kuro obi" and "ong back", but this isn't about that, its about the magic of a film to bring you back all that you have lost growing up.*
