This series attempts to be dark and enigmatic equals dramatic, but only succeeds on the dark part of that equation. In the end it is merely a depressing expose of how the past can intrude on the present. All the twists and turns to the murder (most of which were obviously ploys for plot purposes only), all the supposed suspense, essentially is just to leave us uncomfortable and unsatisfied. Does every Welsh drama have to be so dark and nihilistic? Really? And why not let us watch it in Welsh, with subtitles. I would have preferred hearing the beautiful, musical, language rather than the plodding accents.
The third season of Reacher on Prime has totally gone off the rails. Would it be accurate to blame the change of character on the influence of the author's son, who is now co-writing the Reacher books? The over-the-top violence and hair-trigger anger/rage of the main character just does not fit with the Reacher I'm familiar with. I was extremely disappointed with this third season because of the constant resort to violent solutions, instead of Reacher's usual smart solutions. Revenge is not really an appropriate motivation for this character, IMO. (and now the system is demanding more characters before it will accept my opinion)
Both seasons are engaging as action-comedy, and supporting actors are all interesting. If we get a third season, I'll watch!
The only two things that throw me out of my willing suspension of unbelief are: (1) how tall Owen is. My goodness, he towers over everyone, yet this role is not like that of Jack Reacher where the protagonist's size is part of the character; no wonder he cannot be perceived as "just" a lawyer. (2) Nathan Fillion is not believable as the head of the agency. I'm sure he delights in having an opportunity to play against type, but he is not believable for a second, so we just have to roll with it.
