Everybody around here seems to be criticizing this fine piece of melodrama. It feels like a duty to say some good things to save it right away. I only heard about the title yesterday from Amazon, and then, in the afternoon, a friend of mine offered to lend it to me. I appreciated the coincidence. I've just finished watching it, and must confess I really enjoyed the show. The image is great, Lana Turner is beautiful. I will accept the fact that it's not as original as other melodramas, but it definitely uses all the ropes we love about this kind of movies. So my mark here is seven, I had a great time and I would advise anyone interested in melodramas to have a look at it on a sunny day, just before going to the beach. And dream while watching seagulls in the sky.
Just out of the theatre, I would like to share my impressions about "Les Chansons d'Amour".
This movie is a rare jewel which is even more precious as France is changing so quickly at the moment. It reminds us that, at the end of the day, we are the only ones able to chose our own lives if not death. Actors and actresses are just perfect. Brigitte Rouan and Chiara Mastroiani in particular make you believe in a very vivid way that this French family exists somewhere.
I don't want to say anything about the storyline which is so moving. I began to cry at the first picture in black and white which... but I'd better stop right here.
I'm glad I bought the cd, I'm going to listen to it all evening.
I am so happy that such a movie exists.
Thank you (again) Christophe Honoré.

Watching Torch song trilogy on DVD was such an incredible experience. I had seen it as a teenager (being now 34). It had helped me get through my homosexuality. Showing ways and means of understanding life within a minority. Years after, I had found the original score which i have adored since then. To talk about the movie itself, the first half an hour was a bit old (apart from the second scene which is still so moving from the very start), but as soon as you get the hang of it, you can only let yourself be dragged by the amazing talent of the actors. The montage is perfect and so is everything in this eternal jewel. Watch it once and you'll want to watch it forever and ever.
