Engaging from the get-go, most of the characters are likeable and the plot dripping with josh's acerbic wit. As we saw the progression in Josh's writing through the different seasons of "Please like me", we now see that further progressed here... and from the comments in the reviews here, it may have missed the mark with some viewers, they're certainly all talking about it... no such thing as bad publicity!
Two hours of my life I will never get back... the plot continues the Hollywood trend of poking fun at disabled people (and alienating those in the audience). Joaquin Phoenix clumsily over-acted throughout, his forced laugh becoming tiresome very quickly. In fact the whole film became quite tiresome.
I read the book (along with many others Ben Elton wrote); I found the movie added to the experience; the acting was amazing as I recall.. (I have fond recollections of Bill Hunter and his character's dysfunctional family), killer cast and not too shabby production wise.. would love to be able to find this on a streaming service.. lol..
