In case you've come upon this movie by accident, I'd suggest you go ahead and watch it, and then return return back to read the reviews.

The Brest Fortress pushes war movies to a completely different level of realism, poetry and emotional force. It is so visceral, so real and so emotionally powerful that by the end you're part of the battle and no longer a detached viewer. Not a single shot is wasted, not a single line of dialog is a filler, not a single acting even from extras feels like acting, not a single moment do you feel that this is a movie and not real life. The makeup, the wounds, the dirt, the blood, everything is real and it all hits you with one of the best cinematography in a war movie since Ivan's Childhood. And The Brest Fortress pays homage to that great movie in many ways.

Russians suffered unimaginable horrors during WWII and that trauma in their psyche along with their great heritage of story telling and great cinema combines to create another great Russian war movie.

I feel privileged to have watched this movie, knowing that its still unknown in the west, there is not even a wikki page about it yet.

An ardent Christian with no love for films as an art will like this movie, but as a motion picture experience this movie is utterly boring, slow and the acting is awful. Lucy is the only good thing about this movie, without her I would've not even bothered to set through it.

Imo, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe could have been a great film but it seems that the director was more interested in presenting a coherent biblical account than exciting film making. this film is boring not because of its religious context, it's simply a victim of bad direction acting and a bland script.

The CGI is decent, but it does not give the movie an epic feel even the major battle is badly choreographed and the action is repetitive and boring. I'm also not quite sure about all the animal thing.

People seem to have totally missed the point of this movie. This is a war movie, but its more so about soldiers - American soldiers to be precise.

It shows the shallow gang-ho attitude which is ingrained into marines at booth camp, creating a sort of ultra ego for them and where they can hide from their insecurities. Those who are 'honest', Pyle cannot live with that and flips.

Then how these 'super soldiers' actually perform in real war. Well, they talk ' the talk' but as it shows, 'they really can't walk the walk'. The battle scenes, soldiers talking to the camera, and the final scene is all an indication of that.

In this movie Kubrick is at his best, poking fun at US army and its culture. and also American machismo male stereotype and their utter ignorance of the rest of the world.

With Iraq a hot issue today, this movie resonates more then ever.
