Lovin' all my faves~
<<<---Photo: from A FINE ROMANCE (1981 -1984). Classic Britcom 

PERSONAL ENTERTAINMENT PREFERENCES (all top faves in bold):

Type of television = I love TV of all eras. Types of programs I like are: serialized programs (usually dramas or dark thrillers like "Bates Motel" or the original "Dallas"), cozy and classic mystery and crime shows (like "Columbo" "Murder, She Wrote", and "The Alfred Hitchcock Hour"), mini-series, made-for-TV-movies, and televised plays (especially when they are big-time television events, like "Peter Pan Live"!), classic variety shows (like "Carol Burnett"), vintage talk-shows (like Dinah Shore, Carson, Donahue, Joan Rivers, etc---the fun showbiz-themed ones), vintage game-shows (like the 1980s-1990s "Love Connection"), heartwarming family shows (like "Punky Brewster"), some children's shows and cartoons I grew up with, and occasional cooking shows and home and garden programs. But, as much as I love all these different types of TV from all the different eras, it is sitcoms and comedic shows (especially favorite Britcoms and cozy British comedy) which I tend to love the most.

Type of film = Romantic, sexy, understated, erotic, happy, sweet, uplifting, poetic, mysterious, thrilling, dark, suspenseful, fantastical, warm, fun---Chic[k]-flicks... Lover of all cinema, i.e. "World cinema"---especially European, Australian, and North American cinema---but enjoy films from elsewhere occasionally too. As long as films are romances (especially lesbian romances), musicals, comedies, fantasies, family films, teen films, dramas, FILMS ABOUT TEACHERS AND FILMS ABOUT NUNS (they often inspire and invigorate me), art films, animation (especially the really artsy ones), suspense/thrillers, mysteries, epics, or horror--or a combination thereof--and as long as I like the style, story, and cast---I'll most likely like the film. I am also a fan of some documentary films and shorts. But, the look and musical score/soundtrack is essential to my enjoyment of anything I watch, no matter what the genre. The more visually stunning the film, the better---and the more likable the soundtrack/score, the more I'll adore it. Love films showing lifestyles of the rich and glamorous, lush suburbs, scenery, homes, affluence, domestic settings... I like films that excite me, arouse me, seduce me, fill my mind with wonder, warm my heart, play into my fantasies of a comfortable existence, and/or otherwise make me feel good---about something---even if it's just the clothes the characters are wearing or the places they go!

A look at 1 of my favorite movies =

Okay, I admit-- I'm rather in-love with most of the above-listed actors, actresses, musicians, movies, and shows. So, not only would I like to be many of them, but I'd like to marry them as-well, haha! At least I get to live vicariously through them, each and every time I hear or see them on the screen, which is nice.

Yes, I definitely find that relating myself to favorite movies, music, and television tends to make the "real world" a bit more bearable. It may seem a trifle silly, but to quote some words of wisdom I once read from a fellow IMDb enthusiast, "Whatever brings comfort & positivity to your worldview, more power to it." And that, in a nutshell, is why I'm here :-)

  • Was the TV show "Bewitched" lightly inspired by this?!

    A pretty good romcom.

Very pleasant, with a Sunday afternoon movie vibe. This is the kind of movie you want to watch while the sun is out, lounging in the bed. It's pleasant, it's easy going.

It didn't grab me in any kind of profound way, but it is on my list of movies that I like.

The best part of the movie, though, is the older couple - the guy who plays Abner in the TV show "Bewitched" is the boss of Joanne Woodward's character, who, ironically, plays a woman named Samantha- just like the lead character in the "Bewitched" TV show! And this was the year before "Bewitched" premiered on television! So, maybe the writers of that show were inspired by this movie? But I digress...

Abner from "Bewitched" and the woman interested in him - another coworker of his - played by Thelma Ritter - they ultimately steal the show, in my opinion. That kind of mature love is just so wholesome and sweet. There's a kind of innocence to that mature love that makes it very ironic, because we always associate maturity with a depletion of innocence, but when you see it in the movies, the opposite feels true.

    Anyway, definitely worth the watch!

  • Simple, sweet, but unsatisfactory.

I like it, because it's one of those simple, harmless, cozy old movies that the b&w movie age was so adept at. But, as those movies go, it's one of the lesser of its kind.

Despite this movie not really hitting the spot with me, I must admit that I do identify with it on a personal level. The lead character, played by Betty Hutton, is basically me in another form! But I digress...

If you've seen the Ginger Rogers movie, "Tom, Dick, and Harry," you'll recognize this as a sort of wannabe of that. Except, it doesn't hold a candle to it. And if you like the movie "What A Way to Go" - this is in that same vein as well. Different, but similar. And if you haven't seen either of those, but left this movie unsatisfied, check them out!

It's a testament to how good these old movies actually are, that even the lousy ones are OK. This is one of those.

On another note, Betty Hutton is pretty impressive with how annoying she can be in the way. She changes her voice and stuff. In other movies I've seen, she's absolutely adorable. But in this one, she has the most grating affectation! That's showbiz! And oddly enough, it makes me wanna watch more of her.

This movie is strange for another reason too - as it opens, one is never sure what era it takes place in. In fact, that was one of the reasons I stuck with it to the end, just to see if I would get a definitive answer.

    An odd little film.

One stand out piece of trivia about it, though, is that Lucille Ball starred in the stage production that this movie was based on. I believe she was filling in for another actress. But it was Lucy that made this movie stand out to me. And I just know she would've done the role justice!

This movie reminds me of another favorite movie star of mine as well, Deanna Durbin - because at some point in the film, a song from the opera "Madame Butterfly" is feature featured, reaffirming my love of opera.

Yes, an odd little film. One that's not half bad though.

  • A favorite lesser-known movie from writer/director, Preston Sturgis!

A couple of questionable, clunky scenes aside, this movie is a complete delight - comedy, thriller, and romance!

I don't know what it is about the public domain movies, but they seem to be representative of their times more than any. And there's something a little extra cozy about them. That's how I felt about this movie, which was included in a Time Life public domain movie set that I have.

It was nice to see Margaret Hamilton, a.k.a. The wicked witch from Wizard of Oz playing Harold's sister too! And his love interest, though she didn't get a lot of screen time, was adorable.

I believe this to be some of Preston Sturges' best writing. The dialogue was especially enjoyable, filled with familiar sayings and quick wit.

    Absolutely loved this movie!
