Lots to like about the conventional film told in an unconventional way. However, lots to dislike as well.
The film runs through almost every Hollywood relationship cliche ever. Without giving away the exact spoilers, the movie copies the homework of.- Terms of Endearment.
Meet Joe Black Chef Private Life.......i could go on.
Feels quite cheap and manipulative.
The characters of Pugh and Garfield are also poor. She can't do anything wrong and he plays the world's biggest low T soy boy.
And because the movie only concentrates on the important bits, it's is very plot driven and not character driven. Toward the end I was was getting bored just wanting the plot to finish.
That being said, apart from feeling totally unoriginal, it was a total chick flick that knew its audience. Non cinema literate women.

Finally got around to watching this after it was released on Apple to virtually no fanfare. Glad that I did .
The movie relies on the Pitt Clooney characters fizzing and bouncing off each other, which they have done before in movies like the Oceans franchise.
The movie does everything well. The direction, editing, acting are all very competent but the real star is the script and the plot that gradually develops and keeps everything whizzing along nicely with plenty of action and humorous quips.
These are the kind of movies that Hollywood used to make. One offs, not franchises of childish comic book heroes.
Old man shouts at clouds.

My instantaneous reaction to the movie was how preachy and elitist in tone the whole thing felt. As if the whole point was to make people feel that there is no point to having children.
The film is certainly unique, and that is to be commended, however, none of the characters are particularly likeable and the story feels like propaganda.
The acting is rather good, the setting is bleak and unforgiving, the house used for filming is minimalist and functional with no 'soul'.
The manipulations of Alicia Vikanders character are at times ridiculous, in others interesting. The viewer never knows what is part of the assessment or part of the manipulations of an individual.
Interesting yet a little long, cold and not a movie a sane person could love.
