This episode feels almost like a liberation - a bold, exhilarating milestone in the Nkuti Gatwa era. It offers raw emotion, surprising plot twists, and an inventive, tightly written story. The Doctor delivers a short but powerful closing speech that shines with wisdom and a strong sense of justice. Even better, the episode avoids the usual tearful monologues, showing a more grounded, confident side of the character. A clever and pointed dig at info warriors, truthers, and self-proclaimed conspiracy sleuths adds a smart, satirical layer to the narrative. The result is a thoroughly compelling and refreshingly modern installment. More of this, please - it's exactly the direction the show needs.
After three very disappointing and embarrassing episodes, there is a glimmer of hope on the horizon. This episode is worthy of being categorised as "good". Steven Moffat proves that it is possible to achieve a stunning and respectable result with minimal use of graphic effects and scene changes, using imagination and creativity instead of dance numbers, singsong, fart drives and debates over personal pronouns. An episode that feels like Doctor Who all over again, thought-provoking, and both emotionally and mentally affecting. Personally, enjoying this title motivates me to add further episodes to my watchlist and not give up on Doctor Who quite yet.
The story is pointless, flat, contradictory, boring and embarrassing. The healing and wise Doctor known as the preserver of values, life and the saviour of the Earth and the universe has mutated into a leading figure in a third-rate Punch and Judy show. Just as the Doctor has completely lost his grandeur and wisdom, the story has lost its brilliance. Where has the genius gone that in the series' heyday manifested itself in brilliant speeches, in exposing social and societal inequalities (when he uncovered the Ood scandal, for example) and ultimately through the wit, charm, cleverness and compassion of the main character? The Doctor has degenerated into a puppet, a shadow of his former self.
