Yes, it's a bit slow for modern audiences brought up an silly action movies and mindless Marvel superhero claptrap, as we can see from many of the reviews. It's a film you must invest yourself in, be patient with, and you will be well rewarded in the end. It's also loyal to the original epic story and shows the rough beauty of Greece. The two lead actors were excellent, but for me the strongest actor was the great Angela Molina as Odysseus' wetnurse. I haven't seen her since That Obscure Object of Desire by the great Bunuel. She gives great strength and depth to the film and I can't imagine it without her. She is quite old but astonishingly beautiful still.
I kept watching this only because I needed to find out who did it and mostly because of the actress who played Mia. She's transcendently beautiful and a good actress. The story could have been done in 4 episodes and it was full of holes, the biggest being that Kieran and Mia keep extending their visit (I think it was originally supposed to be for less than a week) without any mention of jobs to get back to. Doesn't at least one of them have a job? If not, how do they and the baby live? There is no mention of this at all. Besides that, it is difficult to sympathize with any of the half-wit, loser characters except for Kieran and Mia.
What a disappointment that the main actors were changed for Season 4. I makes no sense. How did they age 20 years from one day to the next? Is this science fiction now? There is no jump in time in the story but a huge jump in time with the ages of the main characters! We fell in love with the two girls and now they are suddenly changed? Why? This was a great artistic blunder. I watched one and a half episondes of Season 4 but gave up. It was a great series until now. I'd really like to know why they did this big, illogical change. I've read interviews and they make it seem like everyone involved in this change is happy, but I doubt it.
