"Rust" (2024) - A Western with Heart
Rust (2024), directed by Joel Souza and starring Alec Baldwin, is a Western that defies initial expectations. While the film's production was marred by the tragic on-set incident involving cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, the final product offers more than anticipated.
Set in 1882 Wyoming, the story follows 13-year-old Lucas, who, after a fatal accident, is rescued by his estranged grandfather, outlaw Harlan Rust. Their journey through the rugged terrain is both perilous and poignant.
The cinematography stands out, blending Halyna Hutchins' original work with Bianca Cline's contributions, capturing the vastness and beauty of the American West. The landscapes become a silent character, reflecting the internal struggles of the protagonists.
Alec Baldwin's portrayal of Harlan Rust is layered, depicting a man seeking redemption and connection. While some critics have found the performance lacking, others appreciate the depth he brings to the character.
The film's pacing allows for character development, with moments of introspection that add emotional weight. The themes of family, guilt, and redemption resonate throughout, offering a narrative that is both familiar and fresh.
In conclusion, Rust is a Western that transcends its troubled production history. It's a film that, despite its challenges, delivers a story with heart and depth. For those willing to look beyond the controversy, Rust offers a cinematic experience that is both engaging and thought-provoking.

I liked the character of 'Hellboy' but I never liked the movie. Chaotic events, witches, spells, a freak man! Which one is the bad character? What happened now? What happens next? I couldn't focus on the movie because I was thinking about these. I kept wondering if it was because I didn't watch the other movies that I didn't understand. In short, I wouldn't recommend it, it didn't scare me at all anyway.
I don't have much expectations from popcorn movies anyway, but what if it was at least less boring. It has great materials like folk horror, witches, spells, curses, demons etc. But it's a huge disappointment. Waste of time, the trailer is scarier, don't recommend it.
