Hard to tell if Callum McGowan is a bad actor or his character is just very poorly written. The overall writing is not even close to the original and it feels as if the episodes were rushed to completion.
In addition, the network has done the shows no favors by inserting the commercial breaks in what seems like odd places.
The rest of the cast may grow into their roles, but they need to rewrite the Vikram character if this show is to continue. Some better writing of his character or a change of characters would be a good start, but better overall writing is needed if this show is going to receive a 2nd season.

I have to admit that all the dysfunctional families in the first few episodes really made me hate this show. I only stuck with it because my wife wanted to watch it. It was really hard to find a character that I could like just so I could stomach being in the same room as my TV.
I even played solitaire on my computer as a distraction through the first 4 episodes. I mean it's not that hard to follow because almost everyone is a suspect and you know there are other bad things going on that will add to the storyline.
I grew up in a different generation and a very different type of neighborhood where kids were taught to be polite even to each other. Yes, there were bullies and bad people, but they got put in their place by the good people. So this was a bit hard to take but the last 3 episodes were much more riveting.
If you can make it through those first 4 episodes, it kind of redeems itself. The acting is superb (maybe too good).

This review is based strictly on the first 2 episodes since that is all we have so far. Mainly because I am not a fan of martial arts movies (except for Jackie Chan), I found this show dull, dragging out fight scenes needlessly.
The storyline so far has been vague at best. Maybe that is intentional but this show actually put me to sleep, something that no other Star Wars show or movie has ever done and I have watched some of the originals more than 20 times.
I have to agree with some others that the show seems tilted to a younger teen audience. But I have watched a lot of other YA shows on Disney and not been nearly as disappointed as I have with The Acolyte.
