What's that over there? It looks like a pair of dirty old knickers fluttering around on a stick in the breeze. Sorry no, it's Cuckoo- starring Jill Halfpenny. Although the likeness is remarkable. Can't remember it being shown on Channel 4 originally. What a lucky chance I did. It's absolute pants. The main characters' acting is passable, but the storyline is awful. I don't really understand how this kind of pap gets commissioned. Personally, even if the young daughter was mine, I'd have left her with this other family as she's horrible. I'd have paid good money to watch the school bullies give her a good hiding.
I just don't get it....is it because I've just watched it for the first time and it's now approaching 40 years old and therefore hasn't stood the test of time? Nothing seemed remotely funny, or even the slightest bit amusing. Have ideas of comedy changed so much over the years - or do I have a different type of humour to so many others that deem this film a classic? I only watched it because it was on Amazon Prime (?) and thought it was time I did. No real story line, Michael Keaton is a kind of Batman in a black and white striped suit - that's it. Thinking about it actually, I can't say I've really enjoyed any of Tim Burton's films so maybe it's just I have a higher level of expectation than the average punter(?)...I just don't get it...
Well, I finally got round to watching this. I noticed it was regularly in the 'top whatever' rankings, so felt I could no longer resist. It started well, lots of noise, fast car chasing, explosions, gangs of violent thugs beating each other up...great! I thought just my kind of film. Problem was, that was the whole premis of the film. From start to finish it was bang, crash, wallop, boom. Then start again more of the same. No originality, no story - something about getting to a 'green place' - that you felt they'd forgotten about, until very late on. I was sat waiting for a proper story to emerge, but it never did.....
