I've always liked sci-fi but BSG totally captivates me. I cannot help caring for the characters, wish them well. I sort of resisted being drawn in during the miniseries (oh gosh, another rough-tough scarface commander with a voice like a mafia don, and another heart-of-gold tomboyish woman warrior), but could not resist Cmd Adama's honesty and Starbuck's temperament and completely gave in after an hour. I am simply in love with Starbuck, just because of her quirks and temperament. Even if she totally misbehaves I love her. What a role model. Makes me feel like I'm 13 yrs old again :-) And for the rest .. I think the story is incredibly well written, relatively believable (for a sci-fi series), there's great acting in it and it gives me a hell of a good time.

Hats off (So say we all!)

This movie reminded me of Jim Morrison's life. Key issues that came up were: getting inspiration to write, staying motivated and staying true to yourself. I liked the strings of poetry that were read and seeing some top poets talk about their experiences. All in all I thought it was an educational and fun movie to watch. If you want to understand the real definition of the Beat generation - this would be a great movie to watch. It has a documentary style, funky jazz background music and footage of Jack Kerouac. There is some philosophical subject matter which is still true today - and it makes you think about life and its purpose.

I have seen a couple of episodes from Pension Hommeles (Guesthouse Much a-do) when they re-ran it. Although the whole atmosphere breathes the 1950's, an era that I never experienced personally, I found the series heart-warming to watch because of the general gentle interactions of the characters. Nothing big happens, it is sort of an every-day life that is portrayed but the people in it are lovable enough. Of course, in retrospect, the main attraction is Donald Jones who sings the famous "Ik zou je het liefste in een doosje willen doen", a jazzy love song by Cor Lemaire. So, nothing big, loud, extremely good or shocking here: but a gentle innocent comedy playing in the 1950's in Amsterdam.
